Hawkins Continues to Climb Early

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante

Maurice Hawkins opened to 600 from the cutoff, Richard Martin called on the button, Margo Costa stuck around from the small blind and a player in the big blind defended.

The dealer fanned out {k-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{5-Spades} on the flop and action checked to Hawkins who bet 1,000. Martin and Costa both called to see the {7-Clubs} turn card.

Action checked to Hawkins again and he fired in 3,000. Martin was the only player to stick around to see the {9-Clubs} river card and Hawkins continued for another 3,000.

Martin quickly called and Hawkins tabled {k-Clubs}{8-Hearts} for a pair of kings. Martin mucked and Hawkins pulled in another healthy-sized pot early in the day.

The PokerNews Live Reporting Team is at the Daytona Beach Racing and Card Club to live report the $1,100 Main Event, but this is just one of several tournaments on the HPT Daytona Beach schedule. For the past week, the venue had played host to a series of side events, and we wanted to take a moment to recognize the lucky winners from those tournaments.

Event #3: $165 NLH Seniors 50+ had 108 entrants create a $15,121 prize pool. That was paid out amongst the top 13 players. Those who cash but fell shy of making the final table were James McDaniel (10th - $378), Michael Kissling (11th - $340), Joseph Russo (12th - $340), and Jason Hoffman (13th - $340).

Speaking of the final table, that is where the tournament came to an end as the final nine players all worked a deal. Eight of them received $1,490 in prize money while Saied Zamiri of Ormond Beach, Florida was deemed champion and took home a $1,800 top prize.

Bowen Shoves, Hall Sticks Around

Level 4 : 100/300, 300 ante

Jerome Hall opened from under the gun, Tony Miles three-bet to 2,100 and Brian Bowen called. Hall moved all in for 24,900 and Miles quickly folded to Bowen who called, putting Hall at risk of elimination.

Jerome Hall: {k-Hearts}{k-Spades}
Brian Bowen: {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs}

The board ran out {k-Clubs}{6-Spades}{4-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{q-Spades} and Hall's set of kings took down the pot, doubling through Bowen.

Lyons Drops Apter Down

Level 4 : 100/300, 300 ante

The board read {j-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{q-Hearts} and there was around 4,500 in the pot. Brenda Lyons checked to Brett Apter who bet 3,900 and Lyons check-called to the {5-Clubs} river.

Lyons checked again to Apter who again bet, this time for 15,000 and Lyons thought for a moment but in the end, she called the bet and Apter tabled {q-Spades}{j-Clubs} for top two.

Lyons turned over {a-Hearts}{4-Hearts} for a better hand with her rivered straight, pulling in a large pot through Apter.
