One Hand, One Bustout

Level 1 : 100/100, 0 ante

It's not often that you see a bustout on the first hand of a tournament with such deep stacks, but James Burns managed to felt a foe on Hand #1 today, and shared the details of the hand with us.

Burns raised to 300 from the cutoff, and was called by an opponent in the big blind.

The big blind check-called a bet of 500 on the {2-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{q-Diamonds} flop, and the {9-Spades} fell on the turn. The big blind led out for 800, and Burns raised to 6,000. The big blind clicked it back to 12,000, then snapped off his stack after Burns three-bet shoved.

Opponent: {q-Spades}{8-Spades}
James Burns: {k-Clubs}{10-Spades}

Burns had his opponent drawing dead before the {q-Hearts} fell on the river, and Burns started the day off right with a double.

Dawson and Hobbs Earn a Victory in Event #6: $400 Tag Team NLH

Level 1 : 100/100, 0 ante
Charlie Dawson and Nick Hobbs
Charlie Dawson and Nick Hobbs

For the past week, the Heartland Poker Tour has been hosting a slew of side events here at the Hollywood Casino St. Louis.

It was time for duos to compete in Event #6: $400 Tag Team. 192 players hit the felt, making up 96 teams. Players would switch at 8-20 minute intervals throughout the tournament, and once players reached the money, stacks were combined into a single stack for the team.

Only 13 of those teams would get paid, and when the dust had settled, Charlie Dawson found himself with his second title of the series, teaming up with fellow Owensboro, Kentucky native Nicholas Hobbs to take home $4,527 in prize money.

Watson's Kings Hang On

Level 1 : 100/100, 0 ante

The big blind checked a {10-Hearts}{10-Spades}{7-Hearts} flop, as did the cutoff, and Robert Watson bet 900. The big blind called, and the cutoff check-raised to 3,500. Only Watson called.

Both players checked the {5-Spades} on the turn, and the {4-Hearts} peeled off on the river. The cutoff bet 4,000.

"I gotta call, you got the flush again?" Watson said, rolling over {k-Diamonds}{k-Spades} as he tossed in the call.

"Nah," the cutoff replied, flipping over {q-Spades}{j-Spades} before telling Watson, "Nice hand."

Pupillo Fires Every Street

Level 1 : 100/100, 0 ante
Nick Pupillo
Nick Pupillo

Current HPT POY points leader Nick Pupillo opened to 400 from the hijack in six-handed play, and only the small blind called.

They went heads up to a flop of {9-Hearts}{8-Spades}{5-Spades}. Pupillo continued for 500 when checked to. The small blind called.

After the {8-Clubs} turn paired the board, the small blind checked, and Pupillo fired a pot-sized bet of 2,000. His opponent considered his options for a moment and slowly peeled his hand one more time before chucking it into the middle.
