Dowling's Stack Dwindles

Level 4 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante

There were 14,500 chips in the middle when, from middle position, Irish Open ambassador Chris Dowling had 26,000 chips in front of him on a completed board of {k-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{j-Clubs}. That was enough to cover cutoff Janis Valters' stack of 21,700.

Valters thought hard and long about his decision before he ultimately put in the call.

Janis Valters: {q-Clubs}{10-Hearts}
Chris Dowling: {10-Clubs}{7-Clubs}

Both players had a straight, but Valters' was higher than Dowling's. Valters doubled up to almost double starting stack, while Dowling was left with a stack of around 24 big blinds.

Wang Wins Big on the Flop

Level 5 : Blinds 100/300, 300 ante

A big pot was brewing between Pawel Madynski in the small blind and Chan Wang in the under the gun position.

The players had created a pot of roughly 18,000 with their action preflop, before the flop fell {8-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{6-Spades}. Madynski then put out a small of bet 2,200, to which Wang reacted with an all-in for 25,000 chips. After some quick thinking time, Madynski folded his hand, granting Wang the pot.

Even after losing, Madynski is still one of the biggest stacks in the room, already playing four starting stacks.

Winther Plays it by the Book, Triples Up

Level 5 : Blinds 100/300, 300 ante
Orjahn Winther
Orjahn Winther

There were three players involved in a pot of around 7,000. They were already on a flop of {a-Spades}{3-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} when big blind James O'Sullivan bet 3,000 after a check from small blind Liam Durnin. Orjahn Winther then shoved all-in for his last 9,300 chips from middle position. Durnin mulled it over for a while before putting in a cold-call.

O'Sullivan did not deem the amount high enough yet, and put in a three-bet to 24,300. This was enough for O'Sullivan to relinquish his hand, and the other two players went to showdown.

Orjahn Winther: {a-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}
James O'Sullivan: {a-Hearts}{9-Hearts}

The two pair of Winther were ahead and remained so as he filled up on the {k-Spades}{3-Hearts} runout, resulting in a triple up to more than starting stack for him.

Interestingly, while the entire hand was happening, Winther rarely looked up from the book he has been seen reading throughout the tournament, seemingly more enthralled by the pages than the pot.

The Shoe Does Not Fit Stepuchin

Level 5 : Blinds 100/300, 300 ante
Frank Stepuchin
Frank Stepuchin

Frank Stepuchin raised to 700 from under the gun and button Daniel Tighe put in a three-bet to 2,500. Stepuchin called, and the two were off to a flop.

The {8-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} flop saw Tighe continuation-bet for 1,500 after a check from Stepuchin. Stepuchin then put in the check-raise to 4,700. which Tighe called.

The {j-Diamonds} saw Stepuchin slowed down as he opted for a check, after which Tighe put out a bet of 10,000. Stepuchin inquired about his opponent's shoes and took a quick peek under the table. Evidently, he found something there to convince him to fold, as he let his hand go a few moments later.

Tighe raked in the pot and showed his opponent that his shoe-reading abilities still have room for improvement, as he tabled the {5-Hearts}{2-Hearts}.

Chan Folds Correctly in Friendly Showdown

Level 6 : Blinds 200/400, 400 ante
Colm Chan
Colm Chan

Colm Chan opened the action from early position with a raise to 1,000. Liam Durnin was in the hijack and upped the ante to 2,500 before it folded back to Chan. Chan put in the extra chips, and the two saw a flop.

The dealer put out {3-Clubs}{6-Spades}{7-Spades} and Durnin continuation-bet for 3,000 chips after a check from Chan. Chan quickly called, and the two saw the {7-Clubs} appear.

Chan checked to the last aggressor again, and this time Durnin put out a sizable 11,000. Chan forwarded his cards hesitatingly, prompting Durnin to say ''If you show, I show''. Chan showed his {j-Clubs}{j-Hearts} and saw that he made the correct laydown when Durnin kept his word and turned over {k-Clubs}{k-Hearts} for the higher overpair.
