O'Dwyer's Lucky Chair Not Active Yet

Level 5 : Blinds 100/300, 300 ante
Steve O'Dwyer - Lucky Chair
Steve O'Dwyer - Lucky Chair

Last edition's Main Event champion Steve O'Dwyer is in the field, and he is sitting on the very chair that he won the trophy on after taking said chair home in 2022. The chair has supposed lucky qualities, but those are yet to appear so far today.

In the latest hand O'Dwyer played, David O'Kelly limped from under the gun, small blind Fintan Hand completed, and O'Dwyer checked his option in the big blind.

The flop came down {9-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{6-Hearts} and the action checked to O'Kelly, who put out a bet of 600. Hand got out of the way but O'Dwyer stuck around and made the call.

The turn {a-Hearts} saw O'Dwyer check-raise the 1,500 bet from O'Kelly to 4,500. O'Kelly swiftly called and the pair checked down the {q-Clubs} turn.

O'Dwyer could only show missed draws with {8-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}, while O'Kelly flopped a set with {6-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}. No presents yet for O'Dwyer, whose birthday also happens to be today.

O'Dwyer Doubles Up and Eliminates Allberg

Level 6 : Blinds 200/400, 400 ante
Steve O'Dwyer
Steve O'Dwyer

Around the room, dealers were shouting out "Seat open!", the sound of players busting.

In one of those hands, Steve O'Dwyer raised from early position and Marcus Allberg three-bet. O'Dwyer called.

The flop came {j-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{6-Spades}. O'Dwyer checked and Allberg bet 6,000, which O'Dwyer called.

The turn was the {10-Clubs} and O'Dwyer checked to the aggressor once again. Allberg shoved all in and O'Dwyer quickly called.

Allberg turned over {a-Spades}{a-Clubs} for pocket aces and O'Dwyer flipped {8-Clubs}{7-Clubs} for a turned straight. The river came a blank and O'Dwyer near enough doubled up, his lucky chair finally coming into play.

Allberg, meanwhile, was eliminated from the event.

Berkvens Plays It Slow

Level 6 : Blinds 200/400, 400 ante

Bram Berkvens and Farid Fawzi were heads up in a pot worth 13,500. The action was caught on a {9-Spades}{9-Hearts}{a-Spades} flop and Berkvens had bet a measly 700 chips from the big blind. Fawzi responded with a raise to 2,700, which Berkvens called after some time in the tank.

The turn came the {4-Clubs} and Berkvens checked to Fawzi, who threw in a T-5000 chip for a new bet. Berkvens called again, and the {5-Clubs} river was put on the felt.

The action slowed down now, as both players checked. Berkvens showed the slowplayed {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts} and Fawzi mucked his hand, later claiming that he had {a-}{k-} for top two pair with the best kicker. A cooler in favor of Berkvens, who chipped up nicely.

Pitzanti Is Done for the Day

Level 6 : Blinds 200/400, 400 ante

Sandro Pitzanti had put his last 6,100 chips in the middle on a flop of {q-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}. The pot had already grown to a significant 20,300 chips preflop, which gave enough incentive for Jorge Weber to call the bet.

Sandro Pitzanti: {a-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}
Jorge Weber: {q-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}

Pitzanti had an overcard and a flush draw to work with, while Weber was looking for his top pair to hold.

The board ran out clean for Weber with the {9-Clubs} turn and {10-Hearts} river. Pitzanti was eliminated for the second time today, which means he will have to try his luck in another flight if he wants to make it to Day 2.

David Maudlin
David Maudlin

David Maudlin raised from late position and Apostol Beg moved all in from the big blind with a short stack. Maudlin called and players flipped their cards.

Apostol Beg: {k-Clubs}{q-Hearts}
David Maudlin: {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades}

Maudlin had Beg dominated but the board ran out {8-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}, the nine on the river completing Beg's straight and affording him the double up.

Beltz Doubles With Four-Bet

Level 6 : Blinds 200/400, 400 ante
Wouter Beltz
Wouter Beltz

Mert Tozlu opened the action from early position with a raise to 1,100. Joseph Cahill from the next seat over responded with a three-bet to 3,500 and the action folded to Wouter Beltz in the small blind who four-bet jammed his 16,600 stack in the middle. Tozlu in his turn five-bet jammed his stack of 40,000 in the middle, which was enough to get Cahill out of the pot. The cards of the other two players were shown down.

Wouter Beltz: {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}
Mert Tozlu: {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}

Beltz had to fade the ace and he did just so on the {q-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{4-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{6-Clubs} board, securing his double-up and almost trading stacks with Tozlu.
