2024 Irish Open
Whatever plagued the Main Event seems to have been resolved, and play is back underway.
Level: 22
Blinds: 10,000/20,000
Ante: 20,000
The Main Event has been paused for an undisclosed time because of technical difficulties.
Coverage will resume as soon as cards are back in the air.
Paul Carr had open-raised from the hijack before Raphael Verdugo shoved in his final 213,000 chips from the cutoff. The action folded back to Carr, who asked for a count and made the call shortly after hearing the correct number.
Raphael Verdugo: A♥K♣
Paul Carr: 8♥8♦
Verdugo failed to hit an ace or king on the 3♦7♠7♣6♣9♠ runout, and his Main Event ended late on Day 2 as a result.
Paul Corrway limped in from the small blind and Dara O'Kearney checked his option in the big blind. Corrway then continued for 18,000 on the A♠4♥10♥ flop and O'Kearney put in a call.
Corrway sized up to 33,000 on the J♠ turn, but O'Kearney still stuck around with a call. The 6♦ river was quickly checked by both, and O'Kearnet tabled K♦J♥ for a pair of jacks and the winning hand.
O'Kearney ended up with more than double the average as his Day 2 is going smoothly thus far.
Day 1d chipleader Gary Whitehead had raised preflop from early position and Fabian Ghidarcea called in middle position. The flop then fell 4♥9♦J♦ and Whitehead continued for 37,000.
Ghidarcea raised to 90,000 and Ghidarcea three-bet jammed, covering his opponent's stack of 254,000.
Ghidarcea snap called and the cards went on their backs.
Fabian Ghidarcea: A♠J♥
Gary Whitehead: A♥8♥
Whitehead was drawing very thin, but the 8♦ turn gave him some semblance of hope. The 10♣ river secured the pot for Ghidarcea's top pair, however, as he doubled up to an above-average stack.
Thomas Beer had gotten his final 142,000 chips in from under the gun and Brandon Sheils made the call in the big blind.
Thomas Beer: A♣K♣
Brandon Sheils: K♥J♥
Beer's ace kicker played on the 8♣8♦3♠4♥3♦ board and he doubled up to roughly 20 big blinds.
