El Día Numero Dos

Good morning once again and welcome back for Day 2 of the PokerStars.net LAPT Punta del Este.

The starting field of 307 has been trimmed to a manageable 145, more than half of the field failing to survive the opening day. Martin Fuentes is at the top of the score sheet heading into this second day, but his lead is a slender one. Stephen "stevie444" Chidwick is in the hunt, as are Damian Salas and Team PokerStars Pro Leo Fernandez.

The plan is to play down to 24 today, with the tables breaking to eight-handed as the day progresses. We'll be down to the final three tables before the chip bags are brought out sometime late this evening.

We're set to roll in just about 30 minutes, so don't wander too far. We'll be back in a few!

Level: 9

Salas Starts Out Right

We walked up to Leo Fernandez's table to see him involved in a pot on the turn. The board showed {J-Spades} {J-Clubs} {5-Hearts} {9-Diamonds}, and Fernandez led out with a bet. Fernando Iturrino was his lone opponent, and he made the call to put about 19,000 chips in the pot going to the river.

It was the {J-Diamonds}, putting trips on board. Fernandez bet again, this time much more impressively. He announced an all in for about 55,000 total, sending Iturrino deep into the tank. After several long minutes of debate, he said, "No," and slid his cards back into the muck.

That first pot of the day pushes Fernandez up to about 75,000.

Maridu Eliminated

She barely had time to finish her coffee
She barely had time to finish her coffee
Maria "Maridu" Mayrinck started the day at 41,300, but has been eliminated during level nine. She took a hit down to about 15,000 when her {A-?} {K-?} lost to {9-?} {7-?} all in pre flop when a {7-?} spiked on the turn.

She was eliminated shortly thereafter when her {Q-Hearts} {J-Spades} could not overcome her opponent's {K-Spades}{Q-Spades}. The board rolled out {8-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{4-Spades} to send Maridu to the rail.

Double or Nothing for Dabul

Under the gun, Veronica Dabul opened the pot to 2,500. She found a call from Jan Bendik on the button, and the two went heads up to the flop.

It brought {4-Diamonds} {J-Hearts} {3-Spades}, and Dabul knocked the table. Bendik fired out 4,000, drawing an all-in check-raise from Dabul. It was about 18,000 total, and Bendik quickly made the call as the dealer announced, "Paga."

Showdown
Dabul: {A-Clubs} {J-Clubs}
Bendik: {K-Clubs} {J-Spades}

Dabul was ahead and in fine shape for a double up. The turn {8-Spades} kept her in front, and the {6-Hearts} on the river locked up the pot for the Team PokerStars Pro. She's up to 48,000 after stacking that pot.

Panno Takes One from De Lima Zapiello

A pot between Ernesto Panno and Daniela de Lima Zapiello just attracted a lot of attention around their table.

With the board reading {2-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{9-Spades}{4-Spades}, Panno checked and de Lima Zapiello bet 7,600. Panno tanked for a good three minutes before making the call. The river brought the {5-Diamonds} and Panno checked immediately. Daniela de Lima Zapiello took her time and bet 13,700.

Again, Panno took about three minutes to act. However, this time he put in a raise to 47,700. De Lima Zapiello gave it up, dropping to 52,000.

Panno is going strong with 140,000.

Barbero Gaining Momentum

We joined this hand just in time to see German Bazzano check-raise Jose Ignacio "Nacho" Barbero on a flop of {7-Hearts} {7-Spades} {4-Clubs}. It was something like 2,500 raised to 8,000, though we couldn't catch the exact amounts before the dealer pulled in the chips.

In any event, we catch up live as the turn brought the {3-Hearts}. Bazzano, very deliberate in his actions, stacked out 9,600 and slid it across the line. Barbero didn't waste too much time making the call for about one third of his remaining stack.

River: {8-Diamonds}. After a check from Bazzano, Barbero tanked for about two minutes before checking behind. He waited patiently for a reluctant Bazzano to table his hand. Finally, he watched as an airball {J-Clubs} {5-Diamonds} landed on the felt. Seemingly surprised, Nacho hurriedly tabled {9-Diamonds} {9-Spades}, his nines up plenty good to take it down.

Barbero has moved up to about 62,000 courtesy of that pot.
