Welcome to PokerNews' Day 2 coverage of the 2011 PokerStars.net LAPT Punta del Este. After eight levels of play on Day 1, less than half the field remains as 188 of 422 players survived to return to take to the felt today. Leading the way into Day 2 is Juan Jose Perez with 197,500.

Perez is no stranger to success here at LAPT Punta del Este. He finished in seventh place during Season 1 and will most certainly be looking to improve upon that this season.

Manzano Busto

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Chilean Alex Manzano took down the LAPT IV's Sao Paulo Main Event last season for a whopping $368,722. He won't be claiming his second LAPT title here in this Punta del Este Main Event as he was recently eliminated from action. Although we missed how the hand went down, Manzano was eliminated by the powerhouse hand of {J-Spades}{6-Spades}. The board contained two spades on the flop and one spade on the river to give Manzano's opponent a flush and send the reigning LAPT Sao Paulo champion out the door.

Van Thuyh Off and Running

It's been an excellent start to the day for Robert Van Thuyh. He has more than doubled his stack and recently scored an elimination.

He opened in early position to 2,500. The player in the hijack went all in for about 16,000 and Van Thuyh called with {J-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}. His opponent tabled {A-Clubs}{J-Spades}, but was not able to catch up when the board ran out {K-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{8-Clubs}.

Amos Moving In A Lot

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Ben Amos is a familiar face on the Latin American Poker Tour and he's back again in this one making another Day 2 here in Punta del Este. Amos drew the table that contains overnight chip leader Juan Jose Perez. Amos only began the day with 18,300 and has since fallen even shorter than that.

Just recently, we witnessed Amos moving all in preflop from early position for 10,900. Everyone folded to his shove and Amos tabled just the {A-Spades}. A couple of hands later, Amos received a courteous walk in the big blind to add some more blinds and antes to his stack. He also showed the {A-Spades} on this hand.

Shortly after that -- two hands later -- Amos was on the button and action folded to him after Perez opened with a raise from middle position to 2,500. Amos reraised all in for approximately 15,000 and the two blinds got out of the way. After some chatter back and forth, Perez gave it up, showing that he was laying down the {7-Spades}. Amos showed the {10-Spades}{10-Hearts} and raked in the chips.

Amos is now up to about 20,000 in chips.

Stern Folds

Max Stern was pitted against one player on the {A-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}{6-Hearts} flop when he checked the action to his opponent. The player fired a bet of 9,000 and Stern only took about 20 seconds before tapping the table to acknowledge his opponent's play and then muck his hand.

Palacios Busts One

With the board reading {10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{10-Spades}, Bolivar Palacios found himself with a decision after an opponent check-raised all in for about 30,000, a good portion of Palacios' remaining stack.

After a few moments, Palacios did in fact call. His opponent tabled {A-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}, trailing the {A-Spades}{8-Hearts} of Palacios. The {4-Clubs} river secured the elimination for Palacios, closing in on the six-figure mark now.
