From under the gun, Brazilian Team PokerStars Pro Andre Akkari raised to 225. Action then folded to 2011 World Series of Poker Europe Main Event champion Elio Fox on the button and he three-bet to 700. After the blinds folded, Akkari made the call.
The flop came down and Akkari checked. Fox fired a continuation bet of 1,050 and Akkari folded.
Lisandro Gallo is becoming a familiar face around the LAPT Circuit, racking up three cashes and a final table appearance over the course of the last four seasons. He's here in São Paulo this week looking for LAPT cash number four.
It's been a rough start for the Argentinian today, though, and we just watched him drop a sizable pot. We only caught up with the closing actions on the board in time to see Gallo pay off a river bet of 3,500. At showdown, he turned up , but his pair was second--best the whole way. His opponent's started in front and only improved from there. The full house takes care of nearly half of Gallo's stack, dropping him down to 11,800. After the hand, half the table became involved in a frenzied conversation about what had just happened. Our Spanish is rusty, but the Gallo was essentially commenting on dodging a potential tournament-ending clash before the flop.
The under-the-gun player opened with a raise to 400, and he found action from Team PokerStars Online's Fredy Torres who had postion. The small blind also came along with a call, but he'd not factor into the rest of the hand.
The dealer rolled out a flop, and Mr. Raiser continued out with 600 more. Torres flatted, and it was heads-up to the turn. It went check-check there, and the was the last card off the deck. Now Mr. Raiser sprang back into action with a bet of 1,000, but Torres was thinking sinister thoughts. He flicked out a raise to 3,500 total, and his opponent called after just a few seconds.
Torres' was clearly no good as he flung them high into the air and onto the felt face-up. Mr. Raiser's was plenty good enough to get the job done, and he drags the pot to knock Torres back down to about 16,200.
We missed the preflop action, but our intuition tells us that Elio Fox was the preflop raiser from the cutoff seat, and he appears to have called a three-bet from the gentleman in the small blind. In any event, we picked up the action live on the flop as the small blind was quickly betting 1,000. Fox flicked the call into the pot, and he was faced with another insta-bet of 2,500. He called that one as well, and the completed the board on the river. The small blind checked very quickly, and Fox spent a moment considering before tapping the felt himself.
The small blind tabled , and Fox quietly folded to slip back to about 16,000.
If you just read this whole post not knowing who Elio Fox is, have a quick read about his most recent tournament victory.
It's nice to see some of the Team PokerStars family from Europe has made the long trip down here to Brazil to play. We've spotted Holland's Fatima Moreira de Melo and Belgium's Matthias De Meulder in the room, and the two of them are good friends from the EPT circuit.
De Meulder was out of his seat a moment ago trying to chat with de Melo in between hands, but the lady was involved in something serious. We missed the preflop action, but it must have been significant as there were close to 6,000 chips already piled in the middle of the table. It was heads-up, and the dealer gave an flop. De Melo checked from her position under the gun, and her opponent on the button made a bet of 3,500. De Meulder peeked over at his own table and ran back to play his hand.
De Melo cut down the ~17,500 chips left in her stack, then uncapped her cards and mucked without incident.
When we went over to check on Bolivar Palacios, we saw he didn't have too many chips in his stack. He was also involved in the current hand at the table on the board. His opponent checked and Palacios checked behind. That brought the two to the river and the first player bet 2,000. Palacios called.
Palacios showed a losing to his opponent's and was knocked down to just 2,550 in chips.
