Negreanu Cracks One Million

Team PokerStars Pro Daniel Negreanu is back in front and over one million in chips thanks to the following hand.

We picked up the action on the {A-Hearts}{J-Spades}{8-Hearts}{K-Diamonds} board after Negreanu bet 68,000. He was up against Ioannis Beris, who made the call to see the {9-Clubs} fall on the river. Negreanu fired 136,000 and Beris tanked for a couple minutes while talking to himself out loud and also to Negreanu. Then, he finally called.

Negreanu tabled the {A-Spades}{Q-Clubs} for top pair of aces, queen kicker. Beris couldn't produce better and mucked his hand.

Nestola Sweats, Recovers

Daniel Nestola
Daniel Nestola

Under the gun, Daniel Nestola came in with a raise to 26,000, and Daniel Negreanu three-bet to 66,000 from the button. Nestola spent some time pondering before making the call, and off they went.

The dealer spread out {3-Diamonds} {Q-Clubs} {10-Diamonds}, and it would prove to be quite the action flop. Nestola checked, allowing Negreanu to continue out with 72,000 before shoving all in. It was 395,000 total, and Negreanu spent just a moment eyeballing it before announcing the call.

Showdown
Nestola: {10-Hearts} {10-Clubs}
Negreanu: {A-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds}

It was quite the flop for both men, and Negreanu was looking to take a massive chip lead if he could find an out.

The turn {A-Spades} opened up another four outs for Negreanu, but thirteen of them wasn't enough. The river was the blank {4-Hearts}, and that's a big pot to Nestola's corner. It moves him back into the chip lead and close to the million-chip mark, while Negreanu slips back to about 700,000.

Nasser Doubles Back

Samir Nadim Nasser had just lost a lot of chips after Gasperino Nicolas doubled through him, but was able to double up himself on the very next hand.

Daniel Negreanu raised to 27,000 before Nasser moved all in for 59,000. Negreanu made the call with the {J-Clubs}{8-Clubs}. Nasser held the {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}. A board of {K-Spades}{10-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{4-Spades} followed and Nasser doubled.

Nicolas Stayin' Alive

Caio Pimenta came into the pot raising to 35,000, and Gasperino Nicolas found his spot to shove. It was 161,000 total, and Pimenta spent a couple minutes considering before sliding the call into the pot. Nicolas was at risk, and the news was not good for his baby ace.

Showdown
Pimenta: {A-Spades} {8-Clubs}
Nicolas: {A-Hearts} {4-Diamonds}

The {7-Spades} {5-Hearts} {3-Hearts} flop was a decent beginning for Nicolas, and his gutterball would come through in a big way. The {6-Clubs} turned to fill in his straight, and the river {Q-Spades} locked up the double.

Pimenta is down to just over 400,000 after that beat, while Nicolas doubles his way up to about 340,000.

Martin Santos Eliminated in 16th Place (R$12,120)

Martin Santos - 16th place
Martin Santos - 16th place

We only caught up with the action as we heard the shout of the all in, so we hustled over to the outer table to see what was what.

The {7-Diamonds} {J-Spades} {2-Clubs} flop was already out on board, and Martin Santos had gotten himself all in for close to 300,000 with {9-Clubs} {9-Diamonds}. That was a very bad thing indeed as Ibarra had flopped the nuts with {J-Diamonds} {J-Clubs}. Santos needed to go runner-runner to stay alive.

The turn {10-Hearts} was a sweat as he picked up four outs to the win, but the river was unfortunately painted. It was the {K-Clubs}, and it's the last card Santos will see today. He's out in 16th place, good for more than 12,000 Reais.

Ibarra: {A-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}
Roca: {A-Spades}{K-Spades}

The flop, turn and river ran out {10-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{4-Clubs}{2-Clubs} and Roca doubled up.

Crushed Pimenta

Caio Pimenta
Caio Pimenta

Caio Pimenta was on the button, and he opened the pot with a raise. Gasperino Nicolas defended his big blind, and it was heads-up to the flop.

It came {4-Clubs} {6-Hearts} {3-Diamonds}, and Pimenta continued out with another 26,000. Nicolas check-called, and he check-called another 44,000 when the {4-Diamonds} paired the board on the turn. The river was the scary {5-Clubs}, and Nicolas got his last ~250,000 chips into the middle.

Pimenta would need a long five or six minutes to deliberate, but he eventually announced the call to put his opponent to the test.

Nicolas tabled his {A-Spades} {4-Hearts}, then shot out of his chair and braced for the news he was about to receive. Pimenta mucked, and Nicolas let out a huge roar of celebration. His trips were good enough to secure his double, and he's worked his way back above the chip average.

When he paid off his debt, Pimenta was left with just 40,000 lonely chips and a frown that's going to be hard to erase.
