2022 Malta Poker Festival Spring

Welcome to Day 1e of 2022 Malta Poker Festival Spring €550 Grand Event, which takes place at the Portomaso Casino, Malta.

Today marks the final two starting flights of the Grand Event, with Day 1e starting at 2 p.m. CEST and Day 1f at 9 p.m. CEST.

Another big turnout is expected with both flights looking to eclipse Day 1d's 252 total entries. Yesterday's turnout also saw the €300,000 guarantee surpassed with the current prizepool at €334,560. That is expected to balloon today and could get close to the €500,000 mark.

From Day 1d, 65 players joined the already advancing 119 entries to bring the number of Day 2 players to 184.

Italy's Luigi D'Alterio bagged best from the fourth starting flight, ending the day with a stack of 538,000 while players like Simone Lombardo and Christina Read also found themselves carrying a sizeable chip stack into the next stage of the event.

Day 1e gets underway at 2 p.m. local time and players receive a starting stack of 50,000. Starting flights will close after 13 levels of action, all of which last 40-minutes. Late registration is open until the end of the break that follows Level 8 and each participant is permitted two re-entries per flight.

There's also plenty happening outside of the Grand Event to keep an eye on. Day 2 of The Hendon Mob Championship is just about to kick off and has a €15,000 first place prize. The €120 APAT Maltese Championship Day 1 gets going at 3 p.m. CEST and the much anticipated €100 Ladies First! tournament begins an hour later.

Alexandra O'Brien

Mariano Bucca limped from under the gun before Alexandra O'Brien made it 1,600 from the next seat over. Arturo Spiridiglozzi called on the button. Fausto Gravagna then three-bet to 4,400 in the big blind and only O'Brien called.

The {10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} flop checked through to the {q-Hearts} turn. Gravagna check-called a bet of 3,000 to see the {7-Hearts} river. He then check-raised to 20,000 after his opponent bet 7,000.

O'Brien was not happy about the raise and eventually mucked her cards.

Oliver Said

With 26,000 in the pot on the {9-Spades}{8-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{4-Hearts} board, Fabio Figurella check-raised from the small blind to 46,000 after Oliver Said bet 18,000 from the cutoff.

Said couldn't believe the raise and asked "How do you have a full house?"

Said eventually called and his initial thought was correct. Figurella rolled over his {k-Clubs}{8-Hearts} for eights full of kings and Said exposed his {a-Spades}{7-Spades} for a no good ace-high flush.
