Day 2 of the 2022 Malta Poker Festival Spring €550 Grand Event has drawn to a close at the wonderful Portomaso Casino.

273 players returned to the felt which has been whittled down to 18, they will come back Monday, May 2 to compete for the top prize of €71,000.

Polish grinder Pawel Zawadowicz will start the final day as chip leader with 7,820,000. Zawadowicz gained a big stack early on asserting his dominance on small stacks and epic clashes in the blinds.

Three players from the United Kingdom make up the top five.Stephen Kane, PokerStars Pro Chris Da Silva and James Clarke are in contention for the Grand Event trophy.

There was a frenetic pace to play today as it only took four levels to burst the bubble. The unfortunate bubble-boy was Terje Bremseth who lost to Ridvan Kilincaslan.

In one of the biggest coolers of the day, Carolyn Wayne, Jan Hoogendijk, and Daryl Benton were all-in preflop for pocket aces versus pocket kings versus pocket queens.

Play resumes at 2 p.m. CEST on Monday, May 2. PokerNews will bring you all the action until a winner is crowned.

Chen Keren and Simon Gyorgy got their stacks committed from the blinds preflop with the former at risk of elimination.

Chen Keren: {a-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}
Simon Gyorgy: {8-Hearts}{3-Hearts}

Gyorgy would river his undercard to seal the bust out and bring the tournament to 19 players after the {j-Hearts}{k-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{6-Spades}{3-Spades} runout.

Robert Lim opened to 160,000 from under the gun and was called by Tom Frederickx and Chris Da Silva from the blinds.

Lim continued for 175,000 on the {k-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} flop and only Frederickx called. Lim bet another 175,000 on the {k-Clubs} turn and again was called.

Lim then ripped in the remainder of his stack to put Frederickx all-in. Eventually the short stack called and saw that Lim had a full house holding the {k-Hearts}{q-Hearts}. Frederickx had the {q-Spades}{10-Spades} and wished his tablemates good luck before he departed.

Robert Lim: {a-Clubs}{a-Spades}

Daryl Benton: {a-Hearts}{7-Spades}
James Clarke: {k-Hearts}{10-Clubs}

House Over House Over House Busts Two

Level 22 : 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante
Chen Koren
Chen Koren

The hand was relayed by the table. Barnabas Nagy open-jammed for 400,000 from the button before Chen Keren moved all-in for 900,000 from the small blind. Leo Worthington-Leese called off his final 800,000 from the big blind.

Barnabas Nagy: {q-}{8-}
Leo Worthington-Leese: {8-}{8-}
Chen Keren: {a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}

Each player caught something on the {q-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{2-Spades} flop, But Wothington-Leese had the best of it with a set of eights. That changed on the {q-Spades} turn to put Nagy on the brink of a triple up with queens full of eights.

It was then Keren's turn to make a full house following the {a-Diamonds} river and he scooped the pot while sending two of his opponents to the rail in spectacular fashion.

Da Silva Takes Chip Lead After Busting Israel

Level 21 : 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante
Chris Da Silva
Chris Da Silva

Chris Da Silva opened to 40,000 from early position and was called by Nemo Israel in the big blind.

Israel check-called a bet of 30,000 on the {7-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{x-} flop. He then check-raised to 350,000 on the {9-Spades} turn after Da Silver bet 125,000. Da Silva called.

The {q-Hearts} river prompted Israel to empty the clip and jammed for around 800,000. Da Silva went deep into the tank and the clock was called. Da Silva decided to make his decision on the flip of a coin and it came the side where he said we would call.

Israel had six-high with {6-Spades}{5-Hearts} and Da Silva scooped one of, if not, the biggest pot of the day with his {q-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}.
