Day 2 of the 2022 Malta Poker Festival Spring €550 Grand Event has drawn to a close at the wonderful Portomaso Casino.

273 players returned to the felt which has been whittled down to 18, they will come back Monday, May 2 to compete for the top prize of €71,000.

Polish grinder Pawel Zawadowicz will start the final day as chip leader with 7,820,000. Zawadowicz gained a big stack early on asserting his dominance on small stacks and epic clashes in the blinds.

Three players from the United Kingdom make up the top five.Stephen Kane, PokerStars Pro Chris Da Silva and James Clarke are in contention for the Grand Event trophy.

There was a frenetic pace to play today as it only took four levels to burst the bubble. The unfortunate bubble-boy was Terje Bremseth who lost to Ridvan Kilincaslan.

In one of the biggest coolers of the day, Carolyn Wayne, Jan Hoogendijk, and Daryl Benton were all-in preflop for pocket aces versus pocket kings versus pocket queens.

Play resumes at 2 p.m. CEST on Monday, May 2. PokerNews will bring you all the action until a winner is crowned.

Robert Lim opened to 160,000 from under the gun and was called by Tom Frederickx and Chris Da Silva from the blinds.

Lim continued for 175,000 on the {k-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} flop and only Frederickx called. Lim bet another 175,000 on the {k-Clubs} turn and again was called.

Lim then ripped in the remainder of his stack to put Frederickx all-in. Eventually the short stack called and saw that Lim had a full house holding the {k-Hearts}{q-Hearts}. Frederickx had the {q-Spades}{10-Spades} and wished his tablemates good luck before he departed.

Runner-Runner Double for Petrauskas

Level 24 : 30,000/60,000, 60,000 ante

Jason Shellum bet 130,000 from the button, Mantas Petrauskas jammed for 890000 from the big blind. Shellum was in the tank for three minutes before he elected to call.

Mantas Petrauskas: {10-Clubs}{9-Clubs}
Jason Shellum: {a-Hearts}{10-Hearts}

Petrauskas was dominated and the {7-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{7-Clubs} flop did not provide much help as it gave Shellum a flush draw. The {q-Clubs} on the turn gave a flush-draw to Petrauskas of his own. The {3-Clubs} river gave Petrauskas the runner-runner flush to save his tournament life. Shellum could not believe his luck.
