At the wonderful Portomaso Casino the first of six starting flights of the Malta Poker Festival Spring €550 Grand Event has come to close with just 31 players remaining out of a total of 118 entries.
Victor Fryda finished Day 1a with the chip lead, with Bart Kuiper and Jordan Dumas rounding out the top three chip stacks.
Other notable players who made it through to Day 2, which kicks off on Sunday, May 1, include Tomasz Brzezinski, Philip Huxley and Fabio Berti.
However, players such as Ahamed Mohamed, Maureen Bloechlinger and Jacqueline Cachia all fell at the first hurdle.
Germany's Bora Uludag was another player who advanced and was fortunate to turn a Royal Flush

The dealers have been instructed to deal the final three hands of the day.
Andrea Masendore opened to 9,000 from under the gun and was called by Giuseppe Grupposo from the cutoff.
Corel Theuma moved all-in for 49,000 from the small blind and then Victor Fryda jammed as the covering stack from the big blind. Masendore called off his remaining chips before Grupposo mucked.

Fryda hit his ace on the flop and secured the checkmark on the turn. The river completed the board.
