Domenico Lando brought balance to the felt at the 2024 Malta Poker Festival Grand Event, navigating his way through a talented final table to emerge victorious and claim the title, trophy and €140,000 prize.
Lando picked his spots wisely in the final stages en route to topping the record-breaking 2,045 entry field, where the €941,568 prize pool was paid out to the top 306 players. Lando's triumph in the biggest MPF Grand Event was somewhat of an underdog story. The Italian player had only $13,400 in live earnings before registering for the event, with a best cash of just $6,077.
Lando toppled Nikolaos Konstas in heads-up play, after the latter appeared to have one hand on the winner's spoils, but as is ever with poker, someone's fortune can change completely with a turn of a card.

Both parties had put in 3,500 on the turn on a board of J♣8♠4♦7♥ board, with around 2,500 in the middle at that point.
The Q♦ completed the board, and Strange check-called versus a bet of 5,200 from Johnston.
Johnston tabled Q♣J♥ for the rivered two pair, while Strange had A♠J♠ for top pair jacks. "Sorry mate, I was shutting down unless I hit the river.", said Johnston.

A chunky pot of 40,000 had developed by the river on a board of A♣K♦9♥3♣4♥, in a hand between Robert Oliver and Dimitrios Tsakalakos.
Tsakalakos fired out a bet of 25,000, and after a brief period of deliberation, Oliver folded.
In the next hand, Tsakalakos limped under the gun, and Oliver raised to 700, receiving calls from the big blind and Tsakalakos.
The flop came Q♦8♦7♦, and was checked through to the 3♦ turn, where action was checked to Oliver. He fired out a bet of 2,000, and only Tsakalakos called.
On the 7♠ river, Tsakalakos check-folded versus an overbet of 10,000 from Oliver, who flashed the A♦ after his opponent folded.
