Diego Sarmiento Takes Chip Lead Into the Final Day

Today, 98 hopefuls returned to the felt in the stunning Casino Marrakech in the Es Saadi Resort and at the end of the day, only 12 of them made their way to Day 3. Diego Sarmiento, chipleader at the end of Day 1a managed his way through the field and bagged a big lead with 2,735,000 in chips, meaning a confortable 109 big blinds for tomorrow.

Ahmed Bourma sits just behind Sarmiento in second place with a substantial amount of 2,170,000 in chips to play with tomorrow. Closing the podium is [Removed:445], who found a big double up on the very end of the day against Mohamed Ait Chaib to bag 1,715,000.

Notables left in the field are WSOP champion Jean-Luc Adam, (400,000) and Rakesh Lalwani (740,000), who is continuing his good run on the Main Event after final tabled the Opener and the High Roller this week.

The money was reached at level 15, when Andre Gilquel hit two pair to bust a short stack Sabry Ferhaoui, guaranteeing the remaining 55 players DH 26,000 (€2,600).

Players that did make the money but not the end of the day include Gaelle Baumann (DH 28,000), Steve Savio (DH 30,000), Tristan Forge (DH 33,000), Imad Derwiche (DH 33,000), Moundir Zoughari (DH 37,000) and Anas Tadini (DH 48,000). Not everyone walked away with a money finish, as High Roller winner Paul Tedeschi, Isabel Baltazar, Sonny Franco and Australian Hanna Azimai all left the stage empty-handed.

The 12 remaining players will return on Sunday, September 11th, for Day 3 of the Main Event. Play resumes at 2 p.m. local time in level 22, which has a small blind of 10,000, big blind of 25,000 and a running ante of 25,000 with a duration of 60 minutes.

Mohamed Ait Chaib opened to 40,000 and Diego Sarmiento called on the button before Serdar Demircan decided to shove in the big blind for 256,000. Ait Chaib quickly called and after some thinking, so did Sarmiento.

The flop revealed {3-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{q-Diamonds} and the two remaining active players checked to see a {j-Spades} on the turn. This time Ait Saib quickly check-called Sarmiento for 200,000.

The river fell the {3-Hearts} and Ait Chaib checked. Sarmiento fired 350,000 and Ait Chaib let it go. Sarmiento flipped over {a-Clubs}{10-Clubs} for the straight and Demircan quickly sent {j-Clubs}{10-Hearts} into the muck before walking to the payout desk.
