Brosky Leads the Main Event After Day 1b, Boeken Wins High Roller

Level 9 : 400/800, 100 ante
Michiel Brosky
Michiel Brosky

After a three day hiatus, the Main Event of the Master Classics of Poker in Holland Casino Amsterdam continued with 9 levels on Day 1b. A big turnout of 214 entries, combined with the 121 of Day 1a, made for a big increase compared to last year. Registration remains open till the start of play on Day 2, so the numbers might even grow.

Leading the charge is Dutch grinder Michiel Brosky, having built his 30,000 starting stack into a massive 228,500. Fellow Dutchman Firat Baltaci also built a big stack, though he's 100,000 shy of Brosky's record stack.

Jorryt van Hoof, after having busted twice on Day 1a as well, tried again today on Day 1b but could not make any waves. He busted his two possible entries early on the day. He might still have hope for the title as the rules allow for one last fifth entry at the start of Day 2 is he so pleases.

Former champions Ole Schemion, David Boyaciyan and Jussi Nevanlinna all did make it through, with Boyaciyan leading the Day 1b champs with 96,000. He faces another former champion on Day 2 as Noah Boeken ended Day 1a with a massive 170,000-stack.

EPT Champions Jan Bendik (96,400) and Robin Ylitalo (52,200), serial qualifier Pierre Neuville (79,600), PokerStars Sport Star Fatima Moreira de Melo (64,500) and Dutch crime reporter Alberto Stegeman (40,200) are amongst the players that also made it through.

The remaining players will be joined by the Day 1a survivors and return together for Day 2 action at 2 pm local time. The Master Classic of Poker Main Event will feature 75-minute levels on Day 2, followed by 90-minute levels for Day 3 and 4.

Noah Boeken Wins the €10,000 High Roller for €217,069

Like the Main Event, the High Roller field was bigger than last year and they needed a third day to finish things.

As said, Noah Boeken had already locked up his seat for Day 2 of the MCOP Main Event on Day 1a and entered the €10,000 High Roller event on a last minute decision.

The first ever Dutch EPT Champion and MCOP Main Event winner battled himself through the field of 74 to come out victorious, beating Charlie Carrel heads up for the MCOP plate and the associated €217.069.

The €10,000 High Roller at the 2016 Master Classics of Poker was scheduled as a 2-day event, but they needed more than 7 hours on the extra third day to play down to a winner.

Six players returned today to battle it out for the €217,069 first place prize. In the end, Noah Boeken beat out the competition, taking care off Charlie Carrel heads up. In the final hand, short stack Carrel pushed the action with pocket fours and Boeken had an easy decision holding pocket aces. The aces held up, and Boeken was crowned the winner.

Boeken, who also won the Main Event here at the MCOP back in 2013, takes home his second trophy from the oldest of poker tournaments in Amsterdam. He'll be back tomorrow, as he survived Day 1a of the Main Event as one of the biggest stacks in the room.

Jorryt van Hoof
Jorryt van Hoof

Jorryt van Hoof was just seen leaving the tournament area. We witnessed the last two streets of action, and Van Hoof's former neighbor Shander de Vries filled us in on the rest.

The hijack opened for 700 and, acting out of the small blind, Van Hoof three-bet to 2,275. The hijack called.

The flop came {3-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{8-Spades} and Van Hoof check-called a bet of 1,400. He check-called another 5,850 on the {2-Diamonds} turn and check-called all in for an undisclosed amount on the {7-Hearts} river.

The hijack showed {8-Clubs}{10-Clubs} and Van Hoof Mucked.

The flop came {4-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{10-Diamonds} and both the big blind and De Rooij checked. Stegeman bet 2,525 and the big blind called. De Rooij folded.

The {4-Clubs} hit the turn and the big blind checked. Stegeman bet 4,175 and his opponent raised to 10,200. Stegeman shoved all in and his opponent folded.

"Zisimo" Busts One

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante
Georgios Zisimopoulos
Georgios Zisimopoulos

The player under the gun limped and another two players called as well, before action got to Georgios Zisimopoulos in the small blind. Zisimopoulos, who finished runner-up in this very event last year (€178,616), raised to 1,025. The big blind folded, the player under the gun called, one player folded and another called.

Three players to the flop of {A-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} and Zisimopoulos bet 1,025. Under the gun raised to 2,100, prompting a fold from the player in the middle. Zisimopoulos called.

Zisimopoulos lead for 3,500 on the {J-Diamonds} turn and his opponent called. Zisimopoulos, again, lead for 3,500 as the {7-Clubs} completed the board. His opponent shoved all in for about 20,000 or so and Zisimopoulos leaned back in his chair.

He tanked for quite a bit and one player asked for the clock. The brush, who had been standing by, alerted Zisimopoulos he had a minute to act on his hand.

"Ten, nine, eight" the floor announced, "seven, six, five..."

With four seconds left, Zisimopoulos tossed in two chips to indicate he was calling. The player under the gun showed {Q-Hearts}{Q-Spades}, Zisimopoulos quickly turned over {J-Clubs}{J-Hearts} for the winning set. The player under the gun made his exit, Zisimopoulos started building his chip castle.
