Day 3 Awaits, In Search of a Final Table

John Juanda
John Juanda

In a little under an hour, Day 3 of the Master Classics of Poker 2017 Main Event gets underway. 39 players remain, all guaranteed a payday of €8,577. Late last night, the bubble burst as Joris Ruijs hit the rail after losing most of his chips with ace-king to kings. Now, the quest for the Final Table starts. At the end of the day, a final table of 9 should be formed.

When the players return, blinds will be at 2,500 and 5,000 with a 500-ante. Levels are, again, 75 minutes long. Ukrainian player Igor Yaroshevskyy leads, with Lars Bonding in 2nd. John Juanda, Ben Heath, Noah Boeken, and Dutch tv host Alberto Stegeman are just some of the big names still in contention.

Oussama al Mobaress Eliminated

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Oussama al Mobaress
Oussama al Mobaress

Oussama al Mobaress lost with aces to king-ten earlier today, and lost the remainder just now.

Lars Bonding opened under the gun for 12,500. Small blind Al Mobaress shoved for 74,500 and big blind Igor Yaroshevskyy just about snap called. Bonding asked for a count but eventually folded. Yaroshevskyy admitted to have missed Bonding's raise, he was under the impression it was a small blind (shove) versus big blind situation.

Oussama al Mobaress: {A-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}
Igor Yaroshevskyy: {Q-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}

The board ran out {Q-Spades}{5-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{5-Spades} and Al Mobaress exited.

Johan Verhagen Eliminated

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Johan Verhagen (photo from an earlier event)
Johan Verhagen (photo from an earlier event)

Johan Verhagen opened for 15,000 and Rens Feenstra 3-bet to 41,000. Action folded back around to Verhagen and he called.

Verhagen checked on {7-Spades}{J-Clubs}{5-Spades} and Feenstra bet 32,000. Verhagen check-raised to 85,000 and Feenstra called.

As the {10-Hearts} hit the turn, Verhagen shoved for about 130,000. Feenstra called instantly.

"Ouch, that was fast," Verhagen said with a pained face.

Rens Feenstra: {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds}

The river {10-Spades} was a blank and Verhagen bowed out in 25th place.

Ben Heath Eliminated

Level 19 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Ben Heath (photo from an earlier event)

Marijn van Puffelen was kind enough to tell us the details of a bust out hand that we missed.

Igor Yaroshevskyy opened under the gun and small blind Ben Heath pushed for about 150,000. Heath got called pretty quickly and found out he was in trouble. Heath had {K-}{Q-} while Yaroshevskyy tabled {A-}{A-}.

An {A-} on the flop just about ended it for Heath. No luck on the turn and river and Heath exited the tournament area. Yaroshevskyy, as far as we can tell, the first player with over a million in chips.

Bart Lybaert: {K-Hearts}{K-Spades}

Lavrijsen Fires Three Bullets

Level 19 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Martin Kabrhel's card protector
Martin Kabrhel's card protector

Martin Kabrhel opened for 18,000 from middle position and Dennis Lavrijsen on the button 3-bet to 42,000. The blinds got out of the way and Kabrhel called.

Kabrhel check-called 42,000 on {9-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{5-Clubs} and another 78,000 on the {2-Spades} turn.

"Dennis, what are you doing? Is this your welcome?" Kabrhel asked, "You want to bust?"

Lavrijsen sat there silently as the {10-Diamonds} hit the river. Kabrhel, with 169,000 behind, checked. Lavrijsen shoved all in.

Kabrhel started talking again, asking Lavrijsen if he had a set of nines. The floor came over and forbid Kabrhel to talk about cards and hands. Several minutes past before John Juanda asked for the clock, but the floor didn't oblige and gave Kabrhel some more time.

Another minute or so later, Michiel Brosky asked for the clock. Now Kabrhel was put on the clock but he folded with 3 seconds left to act.

Alberto Stegeman Eliminated Running Kings Into Aces

Level 19 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Alberto Stegeman
Alberto Stegeman

Alberto Stegeman was up to over half a million but just now, after a massive set up, he lost all of it to Claas Segebrecht.

Stegeman got his chips in with {K-Hearts}{K-Spades} up against the {A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds} of Segebrecht.

The flop of {3-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} was of no help for Stegeman and neither were the {2-Clubs} on the turn and {3-Spades} on the river.

Noah Boeken Eliminated in 15th Place (€14,333)

Level 21 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Noah Boeken
Noah Boeken

Claas Segebrecht opened the cutoff and small blind Goran Mandic and big blind Noah Boeken both called.

All 3 of them checked on {10-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} and the {7-Hearts} on the turn was seen for free. Mandic bet out 55,000 and Boeken called. Segebrecht overcalled.

The {9-Clubs} on the river saw Mandic check. Boeken shoved for 144,000 and Segebrecht went into the tank. Eventually, the German raised over the top all in and Mandic folded.

Boeken showed {A-Hearts}{5-Spades} for nothing but the nut flush blocker, Segebrecht triumphed with {K-Hearts}{5-Hearts} for the second nuts.

Michiel Brosky (right)

Dennis Lavrijsen, who had lost some smaller pots in a row, opened to 27,000 under the gun plus one. Action folded to Michiel Brosky on the button and he moved in for 159,000. The blinds folded, Lavrijsen called instantly.

Michiel Brosky: {A-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}
Dennis Lavrijsen: {Q-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}

The board ran out {4-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{7-Spades}{9-Hearts} and Brosky departed in 13th place. Last year he picked up €41,447 for placing 7th, this time he got €16,929.

Level 22 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Dennis Lavrijsen
Dennis Lavrijsen

Kai Lehto opened the hijack for 35,000 (with over 300,000 behind) and his neighbor Dennis Lavrijsen went into the tank for a bit. After about 2 minutes or so, he pushed for 296,000.

Moritz Dietrich folded right away but small blind Bart Lybaert wasn't so eager to throw his cards into the muck. He checked his cards 3 times and eventually pushed. Juanda folded his big blind right away, and so did Lehto.

Dennis Lavrijsen: {7-Hearts}{7-Spades}
Bart Lybaert: {10-Clubs}{10-Spades}

The board came an uneventful {A-Spades}{J-Spades}{6-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}{3-Clubs} and Lavrijsen hit the rail in 11th place for €19,976. The Main Event is now hand for hand on the Final Table bubble.
