Another 232 players took their shot at the $5,300 Luxon Pay Mediterranean Poker Party Main Event on Day 1b, and after eight hour-long levels, it was Russia’s Dmitry Yurasov who bagged the overall tournament chip lead.

Yurasov picked up aces in a three-way all in during the last level of the night and finished with 543,500, narrowly eclipsing the total of Day 1a chip leader Denis Vitchenko. He is followed on the chip leaderboard by Yulian Bogdanov (511,500) and Phillip Nagy (457,000), who finished in third place in the One Drop earlier in the MPP.

A total of 123 players survived the day. Faraz Jaka arrived at the Merit Royal Diamond Hotel and jumped into the action today, but wouldn’t last long on his first bullet. His second entry, though, would go much better. Jaka was involved in a three-way all in against Simon Trumper and Onur Ozgur, winning a coin flip with ace-queen against Ozgul’s pocket jacks to eliminate both players and climb up to around 360,000. He ended the night as one of the largest stacks with 393,500. Other big stacks include Steven Warburton (354,500), Melika Razavi (335,500), and Freddy Deeb (328,000).

Among the players who failed to make it through the day are Niall Farrell, who used two bullets but will have to try again tomorrow on Day 1c, Steve O'Dwyer, Sofia Lovgren, and Timur Margolin.

A total of 364 players have entered the Main Event through the first two starting flights. Day 1c tomorrow at noon local time is expected to be the largest of the three as the field surges toward the $5,000,000 guaranteed prize pool. The surviving players from the three flights will return on September 1 for Day 2.

The PokerNews live reporting team will also return tomorrow for all the action from Day 1c as another crop of players attempts to catch up to Yurasov and his chip lead.

Jaka Scores Double Knockout

Level 8 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Faraz Jaka
Faraz Jaka

Faraz Jaka raised to 5,000 and was called by Onur Ozgur in the cutoff. From the button, Simon Trumper shoved for 45,000. Jaka reshoved for 160,000, and Ozgur snap-called.

Simon Trumper: {a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}
Onur Ozgur: {j-Hearts}{j-Spades}
Faraz Jaka: {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}

"I'm drawing dead," Trumper said when the cards were revealed. Jaka, filming the action with his phone, jumped into the lead on the {4-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{8-Spades} flop with a pair of queens.

The {6-Hearts} came on the turn, followed by the {a-Hearts} on the river to give Jaka two pair. Trumper was eliminated, while the stacks were counted down and Jaka had Ozgur covered. Ozgur asked the dealer to wait taking in the cards while he snapped a picture before joining Trumper on the rail.

Manig Loeser
Manig Loeser

Manig Loeser and Qiong Hu built a pot of around 25,000 on the {4-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{k-Spades} flop when both players checked.

The turn came the {j-Clubs} and Hu bet 10,000 from the hijack. Loeser, in early position, came back with an all-in shove for 52,000 and Hu called after some deliberation.

Manig Loeser: {4-Hearts}{4-Spades}
Qiong Hu: {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts}

Hu looked away from the table in frustration after seeing he was already drawing dead to Loeser's set of fours. The meaningless river came the {7-Clubs} and Loeser doubled up.

Livshitz this time fired out 35,000 and Isaak tanked for a moment before calling. Livshitz showed {8-Diamonds}{8-Spades} for a full house, eights full of aces, and Isaak flashed the {a-Hearts} before mucking.

Timur Margolin
Timur Margolin

Action was picked up on the river with the board reading {3-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}. There was a hefty pot of about 66,000 in the middle. The cutoff moved all in after thinking for a while.

Timur Margolin was in the big blind and thought about it for a few moments before he called.

The cutoff tabled the {9-Spades}{2-Spades} for just a pair of deuces while Margolin had the {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs} for the winner as his opponent was left with just a few chips and Margolin gathered the big pot.

Samaha Doubles on First Hand

Level 1 : Blinds 200/400, 400 ante
Bernard Samaha
Bernard Samaha

Action was retold to PokerNews about a wild hand that happened on the very first hand of the day.

Bernard Samaha had {5-}{5-} and was up against one opponent as the flop came {a-}{2-}{5-} giving Samaha a set. He bet 2,500 and his opponent called.

The turn action was not told, the card ending up being irrelevant, but the river came the {9-Clubs}. His opponent bet 4,300, Samaha raised to 12,000 and his opponent jammed all in which Samaha called with the set.

His opponent had the {j-Clubs}{3-Clubs} for nothing except a wheel draw and he was busted while Samaha gathered a double up on the first hand.
