PokerNews Cup
Day 1a Started
Welcome to opening-day coverage of the PokerNews Cup here at the Luxon Pay Mediterranean Poker Party held at the incredible Merit Royal Diamond Hotel and Casino in North Cyprus.
After a successful June event at the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas, the PokerNews Cup is back and starts with Day 1a today.
The tournament features a $250,000 guaranteed prize pool and a winner will be crowned on September 1st. Today is the first of three Day 1 starting flights, with the second on August 30th at noon, and the third, a turbo flight with 20-minute levels, that same night beginning at 8 p.m.
Players will start tournament play with 30,000 chips and play 40-minute blind levels except in the turbo flight. There will be a 15-minute break every three levels and a 60-minute dinner break after Level 9. Players may re-enter the tournament as many times as they want up until the end of Level 12. The top 15% of all players will all be in the money and qualify for Day 2, which will commence on August 31st at noon.
Back in June, Gary Gelman was crowned champion and awarded $202,725 for his efforts after beating out an event-record field of 1,245 entrants. The event boasted a $1 million guarantee and eventually the prize pool ballooned to $1,207,650.
