Farah Tangles With Tamasauskas

Late in the day, Elie Farah's stack took a hit as he tangled with Vladas Tamasauskas.

Farah opened the cutoff and got called from the small blind and Tamasauskas in the big blind. The trio went to a flop of 748 where it checked around to the 10 turn. The small blind checked, Tamasauskas bet 11,500, Farah called, and the small blind folded.

A Q completed the runout and after Tamasauskas eyed up his opponent's stack, he threw four white chips, worth 25,000 each, into the middle. Farah only had around 60,000 remaining and quickly folded, which left Tamasauskas the pot.

Chisu Puts a Dent in Jontulovic's Stack

Level 9 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Bogdan Jontulovic
Bogdan Jontulovic

Bogdan Jontulovic hasn't been able to get much going today and just lost a pot to his table neighbour Danut Chisu.

Jontulovic had opened from under the gun and Chisu defended from the big blind to see a flop of J2K, where Chisu check-called a bet of 5,000 from Jontulovic.

A 6 dropped on the turn and after Chisu checked, Jontulovic reached for chips and bet 13,000. Chisu immediately called to see the 7 complete the board. Chisu checked, and Jontulovic knuckled back then mucked when Chisu showed a pair of kings with K3.

Champions in the Field as Day 1b Edges to Its Climax

Level 8 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante
Elie Farah
Elie Farah

With the $2,200 Warm Up continuing to build toward historic numbers at the 2025 Merit Poker Carmen Series, the star power on Day 1b is undeniable. Among those taking their shot at another deep run are four players who have already etched their names in Merit Poker history, capturing major titles on these very tables.

Elie Farah Looks to Defend His Carmen Series Legacy

Included in the field is Elie Farah, who claimed the 2024 Carmen Series Main Event title just last year, securing an impressive $338,500 payday. Farah’s victory was a defining moment in his career, overcoming a strong field and proving he has what it takes to close out big events. Now, he returns to the same festival looking to add another trophy to his collection, this time in the Warm Up. With his past success and deep tournament experience, Farah is a serious threat to make another run here at Crystal Cove Hotel and Casino.

Nikolay Fal, Andrey Pateychuk, and Zhen Chen Bring Championship Pedigree

Farah isn’t the only former Merit Poker champion in the mix. Nikolay Fal made headlines back in 2022, when he took down the Western Series Main Event, earning a career-best $326,153. His ability to navigate large fields and close out major tournaments makes him a formidable presence in today’s flight.

Andrey Pateychuk
Andrey Pateychuk

Meanwhile, Andrey Pateychuk is another name that poker fans will recognize. The Russian pro has a resume filled with deep runs and big scores, including his 2014 Merit Poker Winterfest Main Event victory, where he secured $145,472. With over a decade of experience battling in high-stakes events, Pateychuk’s presence adds even more prestige to the Day 1b lineup.

Rounding out this group of champions is Zhen Chen, who recently claimed victory in the 2024 Gatsby Gala High Roller, taking home $132,300. Winning a high roller event at Merit Poker is no small feat, and Chen’s ability to compete at the highest level makes him one to watch as the Warm Up field continues to grow.

Amsellem Carves Up Turkie

Level 6 : Blinds 800/1,500, 1,500 ante
Paul Amsellem
Paul Amsellem

Paul Amsellem just stacked a player and brought his stack up to around 230,000 as the penultimate break looms closer.

On a 22Q flop with around 70,000 in the middle, Wissam Turkie bet 10,000 from the hijack and Amsellem clicked it to 20,000 on the button. Turkie called.

A 6 landed on the turn and Turkie shoved for around 50,000, which Amsellem snap-called.

Amsellem had his man right where he wanted him and Turkie needed to find one of two outs in order to stay alive. The 3 wasn't the card that Turkie needed, which meant he made his way to the exit while Amsellem raked in a chunky pot.

Fal Over 200,000 at Halfway Mark

Level 5 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Nikolay Fal
Nikolay Fal

Nikolay Fal has taken his stack up above the 200,000-chip mark as the day nears its halfway mark.

In the latest hand he played, the action was picked up on a 10AQ flop with around 35,000 in the middle. Fal, in the big blind, checked, as did Arun Sood and the button.

A Q on the turn saw Fal lead out for 11,100, which only the button called to the Q river. With three queens on board, both players elected to check and Fal's JJ was good at showdown as the button mucked.

Fal is a regular at Merit Poker stops and has seven wins on the tour, including a Main Event victory back in 2022 at the Western Series for a cool $326,153, his career-best cash.

Xu and Sibgatova Clash

Level 4 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Yuan Xu
Yuan Xu

There were already around 11,000 chips in the pot on a flop of 499 when both Yuan Xu and Alisa Sibgatova checked to see the 2 drop on the turn. Xu checked again then Sibgatova bet out 3,500. Xu called.

A 7 completed the board and both checked it down with Xu showing KQ, but Sibgatova held the winner with AK for ace-high.

Xu is no stranger to Northern Cyprus as the Chinese player finished fifth in the Eureka Main Event just a few months ago for a huge score of $101,390 - a career best. A Merit Poker cash still eludes Xu, but with the entire series ahead of him, he will be hoping that the Carmen Series will bring fortune his way.

Bacak Times Out, Gromov Rakes a Healthy Pot

Level 1 : Blinds 200/500, 500 ante
Dmitry Gromov
Dmitry Gromov

There was a raise from the hijack before Dmitry Gromov three-bet to 3,100 from the cutoff. Hulusi Bacak cold-called from the big blind, and the hijack also called.

The flop fell AJ10, which checked to Gromov, who then fired out 5,100. Bacak check-raised to 15,100, the hijack folded, and Gromov called.

A K landed on the turn and Bacak elected to slow down and checked, only for Gromov to throw out 10,000. Bacak took his time but eventually called.

When the 2 completed the board, Bacak quickly led out for 16,200, then Gromov just as quickly shoved for around 70,000. Bacak had around 55,000 remaining in his stack after his bet and needed a lot of time to think this one over. So much time in fact, that the clock was called and a 30-second countdown was initiated. With no action from Bacak when the clock his zero, his hand was declared dead and Gromov took the pot.
