28 Players Return For Day 3 of Event #13: $5,300 High Roller

Ryan Mandara
Ryan Mandara

Event #13: $5,300 High Roller at the Merit Poker Carmen Series will conclude today as 28 players from an initial field of 187 return for the third and final day. They will all be battling for a portion of the $860,200 prizepool as none have yet locked up a return on their investment. With 23 places getting paid, when the players retake their seats at 2 p.m. local time at the Merit Crystal Cove Hotel and Casino, soft bubble play will come into effect straight away.

Ryan Mandara of the United Kingdom comes into the day as the chipleader, sitting on 1,950,000. Mandara has total career earnings of $847,570 with his best live cash of $308,953 coming back in 2018 when he triumphed in the Irish Open Main Event. Although he will not be able to surpass that mark today, that will likely not been on his mind were he to win the event for $204,700.

Anton Ionel of Romania sits second in chips with 1,605,000 while Fahredin Mustafov rounds out the top three on 1,500,000.

Although the blind levels have been 40-minutes in length throughout the tournament, with play slowing down towards the end of Day 2, the average stack is now quite shallow, sitting below the 30 big blind mark. That should make for a fairly fast pace of play on the final day.

Short stacks coming into the day include Event #2: $2,200 NL Warmup winner Arie Kliper (195,000), Danielle Noja (250,000) and Iacopo Brandi (258,000), each of whom will first face the task of making it into the money before attempting to make a run towards the final table.

Play resumes at the start of Level 21, with blinds at 10,000/25,000 with a 25,000 big blind ante. Be sure to stay tuned as the Pokernews live reporting team continues to provide updates through to the conclusion of Event #13: $5,300 High Roller.

Hirs Sends Iskandarov Packing

Level 21 : Blinds 10,000/25,000, 25,000 ante
Rashad Iskandarov
Rashad Iskandarov

Picking up the action partway through the hand, Rushad Iskandarov on the button found himself all in and at risk against Aliaksandr Hirs.

Rushad Iskandarov: {10-Hearts}{6-Hearts}
Aliaksandr Hirs: {k-Hearts}{q-Spades}

Iskandarov did have two live cards and managed to pair up on the {j-Spades}{2-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} flop to take the lead. The {a-Clubs} turn, however, improved Hirs to broadway, rendering the {2-Diamonds} river inconsequential as Iskandarov made his way to the exits.

Alexandru Papazian Eliminated On Bubble

Level 21 : Blinds 10,000/25,000, 25,000 ante
Alexandru Papazian
Alexandru Papazian

Alexandru Papazian had just 70,000 behind before opening to 60,000 from under the gun with {k-Spades}{2-Hearts}. Carlos Aoun woke up with {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} in the hijack and he three-bet to 120,000. The remaining players got out of the way to send the action back to Papazian who tossed his remaining 10,000 into the middle.

Alexandru Papazian: {k-Spades}{2-Hearts}
Carlos Aoun: {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}

Papazian was in terrible shape and needed significant help to survive. The {9-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} flop brought no help with nothing changing on the {q-Clubs} turn or {5-Spades} river to send him out of the tournament on the pure bubble. All remaining players have locked up at least $8,100.

Danielle Noja
Danielle Noja

Danielle Noja in the small blind found himself all in and at risk against Aliaksandr Hirs in middle position.

Danielle Noja: {10-Hearts}{10-Spades}
Aliaksandr Hirs: {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}

Hirs looked set to score a second knockout in quick succession and that is exactly what happened after the board ran out {q-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{3-Clubs} to send Noja to the payout desk in 23rd place.

Emrah Yildiz Eliminated in 20th Place ($9,100)

Level 22 : Blinds 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante
Emrah Yildiz
Emrah Yildiz

Emrah Yildiz in the cutoff was all in and at risk against Danut Chisu from middle position.

Emrah Yildiz: {k-Hearts}{9-Hearts}
Danut Chisu: {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}

Chisu was in a good spot to win a crucial pot and send Yildiz to the rail. The {5-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{j-Clubs} flop did give Yildiz some hope but no further help came on the {5-Diamonds} turn or {4-Clubs} river to send him out in 20th place.

Elsewhere, David Hu and Iacopo Brandi were eliminated in 22nd and 21st place respectively.

Viktor Ustimov Eliminated in 16th Place ($10,350)

Level 23 : Blinds 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante
Viktor Ustimov
Viktor Ustimov

Action folded around to Viktor Ustimov in the small blind who moved all in for 340,000 holding {a-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}. Eduard Barsegian looked down at {a-Spades}{a-Hearts} in the big blind and quickly called to put Ustimov at risk.

Viktor Ustimov: {a-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}
Eduard Barsegian: {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}

Ustimov was in about as terrible a shape as one can be preflop in Hold'em and failed to find a miraculous comeback on a runout of {10-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{q-Clubs} bringing his tournament to a close in 16th place.

Yunus Ildes
Yunus Ildes

Carlos Aoun opened to 80,000 from middle position and was called by Stefan Huber on the button. Yunus Ildes then moved all in for his last 145,000 out of the big blind, prompting Aoun to re-jam. Huber thought for some time but eventually surrendered his hand to put Ildes officially at risk.

Yunus Ildes: {k-Spades}{4-Clubs}
Carlos Aoun: {k-Hearts}{j-Clubs}

Ildes was in dire straits, needing to overcome a dominated holding to survive. The comeback was not to be, however, with the board running out {7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{6-Spades} to send Ildes out in 15th place.

Danut Chisu Eliminated in 14th Place ($12,250)

Level 23 : Blinds 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante
Danut Chisu
Danut Chisu

Action folded around to Danut Chisu in middle position and he moved all in for his last 350,000 holding {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}. Lev Kydatov then re-jammed on the button with {10-Clubs}{10-Spades}, forcing both blinds out of the hand and putting Chisu at risk.

Danut Chisu: {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}
Lev Kydatov: {10-Clubs}{10-Spades}

Chisu would need to win a race to survive but was unable to connect on a board than ran out {6-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{7-Spades}, bringing his deep run to an end in 14th place.

Stefan Huber Eliminated in 13th Place ($12,250)

Level 23 : Blinds 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante
Stefan Huber
Stefan Huber

Aliaksandr Hirs opened to 85,000 from early position before Stefan Huber moved all in for 600,000 on the button. The blinds got out of the way to send the action back to Hirs who, after thinking for some time and playing a time bank, committed calling chips to put Huber at risk.

Stefan Huber: {4-Diamonds}{4-Spades}
Aliaksandr Hirs: {a-Hearts}{10-Spades}

Huber was locked in a coinflip for his tournament life. The {2-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{j-Clubs} flop was clean for the Swiss pro although the {k-Diamonds} turn did give Hirs a gutshot to go along with his two overcards. The {10-Hearts} river, however, spelled doom for Huber, sending him to the rail in 13th place.

Maxime Chilaud Eliminated in 12th Place ($14,850)

Level 24 : Blinds 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante
Maxime Chilaud
Maxime Chilaud

Lev Kydatov opened to 80,000 from the cutoff holding {j-Clubs}{j-Spades} before Eduard Barsegian called on the button with {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}. Maxime Chilaud then defended his big blind with {a-Hearts}{6-Spades} to send action three-way to the flop.

The flop came {4-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} and Chilaud checked to Kydatov who continued for 125,000, prompting a fold from Barsegian. Chilaud, with top pair nut kicker, moved his remaining 410,000 into the middle and was instantly called by Kydatov with the covering stack.

Maxime Chilaud: {a-Hearts}{6-Spades}
Lev Kydatov: {j-Clubs}{j-Spades}

Chilaud was on the wrong end of a cooler and would need a lot of help to survive. There was no lead change on the {5-Spades} turn with the {2-Clubs} river confirming the Frenchman's exit in 12th place.
