£140 Main Event - Road to PSPC

Day 1b Started

Welcome to Day 1b of the Main Event

Platinum Pass
Platinum Pass

The Moneymaker’s Road to the PSPC Tour is back for another leg, which means it’s time to rewind back to the beginning. Another set of hopefuls will (most likely) join some of those who were unable to survive Day 1a yesterday, for another full day of poker today, here at Aspers Westfield Stratford City.

Costing just £140, the tournament offers players the remarkable opportunity to win a Platinum Pass* package for the PSPC 2020, which is without a doubt, one of the biggest draws of the event. The other is the chance to play with the man himself, Chris Moneymaker, who took a seat in Day 1a after the first break yesterday and finished the day up top, with an impressive 470,000 chips.

Once again players will receive 30,000 chips in exchange for their buy-in and there are unlimited re-entries available until the end of Level 12. Levels last 30 minutes and there will be a break every two hours, at the end of every fourth level. It all kicks off at 6pm, local time and play will conclude at the end of Level 15, at around 2am.

As always, PokerNews will be on hand, providing live updates from start to finish.

*Each Platinum Pass (worth approx. $30,000) includes:

Buy-in to the €22,500 PSPC 2020 event
Six nights’ hotel accommodation for two people in a 5* Barcelona Hotel
Airport transfers
Bespoke PSPC Merchandise
€1,250 to cover expenses

El Qmache Takes From Matei

Level 1 : 100/100, 0 ante

Rachid El Qmache raised to 500 on the button over two limpers and Dante Matei called in the big blind, as did the two limpers. There was no action on the {j-Spades}{7-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} flop and they headed to the turn.

It was the {k-Hearts} and Matei led for 200, and after two calls, El Qmache raised it to 2,200, which only Matei called.

On the {3-Hearts} river, Matei checked and thought about calling the 3,000 bet before deciding better of it and passing.

Drozdov Finds Rockets

Level 2 : 100/100, 100 ante

After busting just a short while ago, Edgar Drozdov has been on the right side of an elimination after taking out an opponent with {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}. All the chips went in preflop and up against {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}, Drozdov was in excellent shape. It was all over by the {10-Hearts}{9-Spades}{5-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} turn, with the {5-Diamonds} irrelevant and things are looking up for Drozdov.

Flushing Board Sees One Go

Level 2 : 100/100, 100 ante

There were three players facing a {9-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{2-Spades} board on the turn and Dante Matei checked from the big blind position. Next to act was Edgar Drozdov, who bet 3,500 sat in the under-the-gun position. Over to Jay Patel on the cutoff and he flat called, before it came back to Matei. He wasted no time moving all in, much to the dislike of Drozdov.

He used a time-bank card whilst mulling over his decision out loud. "It doesn't make sense," he said whilst shaking his head. It spooked him enough to pass but Patel was going nowhere and made the call.

Dante Matei: {7-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}
Jay Patel: {3-Clubs}{3-Spades}

Set vs flush and Patel was looking for a pair on the board. It wasn't to be though and he hit the rail when the {k-Hearts}. Not to be deterred he was seen heading back over the registration desk as it looks like he'll have another go.
