Moneymaker Folds Kings, Pays House in Swift Succession

A couple of sizeable hands have seen Chris Moneymaker's stack decline this level. The first hand was caught on the river with a bet of 20,000 in front of Moneymaker (and a similar-sized pot). A ten had arrived last to complete the board: {q-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{a-Spades}{10-Spades}. Steve Lewis swiftly moved in for around 50,000 in total.

"Did you catch pocket tens?" queried Moneymaker (no reply). He folded {k-Hearts}{k-Spades} face-up, at which Lewis opted to reveal his {q-Hearts}{10-Hearts} for a rivered two pair.

"That was the other option," Moneymaker said.

The next hand, Moneymaker opened to 3,300, picking up two in-position callers and Saifur Chowdhury in the big blind.

Flop: {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}. Check to Moneymaker, who bet 5,000, called by Lewis and Chowdhury. All three players checked the {7-Spades} turn. On the {8-Spades} river, Chowdhury bet out 10,000 and Moneymaker alone flicked in the call, but mucked when he saw his opponent's {a-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} for the turned full house. With that hand, a new contender for Day 1b chip leader arises in the form of Chowdhury.
