Saifur Chowdhury Leads Moneymaker Tour, Newcastle Day 1b; Tour's Eponymous Pro Also Through to Day 2

Level 14 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

The second starting flight in the £140 Moneymaker Road to the PSPC Tour Main Event at Aspers, Newcastle, played out almost exactly as yesterday’s, with 81 total entries mirroring the 79 attracted on Day 1a. There were many new faces at the tables, however, not least that of Chris Moneymaker himself, who arrived dressed in a full shark onesie and after a bumpy day has made it through to Day 2 (with 128,000 chips) along with 15 others.

Leading Day 1b’s survivors is Saifur Chowdhury, whose 393,500 chips put him in second overall, behind yesterday’s top stacker William Robinson (433,500). Quite a gap separates Chowdhury from his nearest chip rival Ryan Kilbey (242,500), with most of the survivors’ stacks bunched somewhere in between one and two hundred thousand (more below the average stack than above it). For any super-short survivors, the option exists to surrender one’s stack and play again on another flight, but not to choose the highest of multiple stacks.

Playing today but busting before the final whistle were Jeff Kimber, Jonathan Prested, Paul Simmons, Matthew Gray and early chip leader (and online qualifier) Alexander Scales. They all have two more days (with two re-entries allowed in each) to build a fresh stack to take them through to Day 2 (Sunday at noon).

While the school-night flights have been action-packed, if contained on six tables, attendance is set to skyrocket with tomorrow’s Day 1c. Extra tables have been drafted in to accommodate the Friday and Saturday influx of players keen to take part in such a prestigious event at this buy-in level with the huge added incentive of a PSPC Platinum Pass, worth €26,000, for the winner.

Rejoin PokerNews for live coverage from the start of play at 7pm local time.

Moneymaker Folds Kings, Pays House in Swift Succession

Level 10 : 800/1,500, 1,500 ante

A couple of sizeable hands have seen Chris Moneymaker's stack decline this level. The first hand was caught on the river with a bet of 20,000 in front of Moneymaker (and a similar-sized pot). A ten had arrived last to complete the board: {q-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{a-Spades}{10-Spades}. Steve Lewis swiftly moved in for around 50,000 in total.

"Did you catch pocket tens?" queried Moneymaker (no reply). He folded {k-Hearts}{k-Spades} face-up, at which Lewis opted to reveal his {q-Hearts}{10-Hearts} for a rivered two pair.

"That was the other option," Moneymaker said.

The next hand, Moneymaker opened to 3,300, picking up two in-position callers and Saifur Chowdhury in the big blind.

Flop: {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}. Check to Moneymaker, who bet 5,000, called by Lewis and Chowdhury. All three players checked the {7-Spades} turn. On the {8-Spades} river, Chowdhury bet out 10,000 and Moneymaker alone flicked in the call, but mucked when he saw his opponent's {a-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} for the turned full house. With that hand, a new contender for Day 1b chip leader arises in the form of Chowdhury.

Day 1b of the Moneymaker Road to the PSPC Tour Newcastle Set To Commence

Platinum Pass
Platinum Pass

Day 1b of the Moneymaker Road to the PSPC Tour’s inaugural Newcastle stop will play out today in the comfort of Asper’s Casino, where yesterday William Robinson ended the night as chip leader with one sixth of Day 1a’s total chips in his possession.

The £140 Main Event has so far attracted 87 entries, with three starting days left to play. Survivors from all flights will combine on Sunday at noon for Day 2, when the prize money – likely to be substantial, seeing the numbers that other Moneymaker Tour events have been attracting – and the coveted Platinum Pass will be awarded.

Last year, three lucky Moneymaker Tour Platinum Pass winners made it to Day 3 of the PokerStars Players NL Hold’em Championship, all cashing for five-figures after qualifying through $86 buy-in events. Moneymaker’s Road to the PSPC Tour brings back the chance to win a shot at a life-changing poker experience, similar to that which propelled him to poker fame, this year after its success in North America in 2018. Stops on the affordably-priced tour range from Dublin to Sochi, with three in the UK alone.

Day 1b will see players battle through fourteen 30-minute levels, with a 15 minute break at the end of every four levels. Late registration and re-entry (maximum of two re-entries per flight) are open until the end of Level 8. Cards hit the air at 7pm, live coverage commences with the action.
