£140 Main Event - Road to PSPC
Day 1c Started
The third flight in the £140 Moneymaker Road to the PSPC Tour Main Event at Aspers, Newcastle, is set to commence at 7pm local time. A total of 168 entries so far have propelled just 30 survivors forward into Sunday’s Day 2; today’s flight will substantially add to that number. Now that the weekend is upon us, players have travelled from around the country to take part in an affordable event that will award a Platinum Pass worth €26,000 to the winner.
Yesterday saw Saifur Chowdhury top the chip counts with 393,500, with Day 1a’s William Robinson (433,500) still in front overall. Chris Moneymaker made Day 2 with his last bullet (up to two re-entries are allowed per day) with slightly under average chips, so unless he chooses to forfeit his stack, today’s players won’t have the opportunity to clash with him over the felt. They may, however, get a chance to meet the gregarious PokerStars Ambassador who has built his grassroots Road to the PSPC into a now global poker phenomenon.
Play follows the same schedule as previous flights: 14 half-hour levels, with 15-minute breaks every four. Players start with 30,000 in chips and blinds at 100/200. Live coverage starts with Day 1c’s “shuffle up and deal.”
We expect cards to be in the air within a few minutes. There are already three times as many players registered before the start as there have been on the two preceding flights.

A few players seated in Level 1 were unsuccessful in their first attempt (or two) to bag chips for Day 2 and are back for another shot with a fresh 30,000 stack (Gray, Pogue, James), but many more have turned up with the one-bullet dream still intact.

Attracted, apparently, by places that are both "fun to drink in and awarding a Platinum Pass," Niall Farrell has joined the Day 1c fray.

The hunt for inexpensive flops appears to be on over at Table 4, thwarted by a large preflop squeeze from Paul Lyons.
Under the gun plus one, Stephen Harris opened to 600. Every in-position playerbut one made the call, then action passed to small blind Lyons, who threw out 5,200. None of his potential opponents took much time to pass, and he picked up 4,200 with not a face-up card in sight.

A steady stream of late registrants continues to swell the Day 1c field (there are still over three hours left to enter). A few more players in action in Level 2:

Already having siphoned around 20,000 chips from his table in Level 2, Alan Surtees just won another tidy pot playing from the big blind. Threeway to a flop, Surtees checked, an early position player bet 1,200, and the button called. Surtees then check-raised to 3,200, called by the original bettor alone. The turn brought the and Surtees check-called a bet of 4,100. On the river, Surtees checked once more, but called his opponent's 5,700 bet immediately, showing down for the nut flush. His opponent mucked.
