£140 Main Event - Road to PSPC
Day 1d Started
The final flight in the inaugural Newcastle stop on the £140 Moneymaker Road to the PSPC Tour will begin at 2pm. So far, 49 players from a total field of 298 have progressed from one of three start days, with overall chip leader Daniel Stancer having built a tower of 454,500 chips from a starting stack of 30,000 on Day 1c.
Day 1d is set to be the busiest yet at Aspers Casino, Newcastle, as both new arrivals and those busted in prior flights take their final shot at a run for the prize money (to be confirmed after late registration ends at the start of Level 9) and a chance to win a Platinum Pass worth €26,000 along with a coveted Moneymaker Tour trophy.
Once more, play will run through 14 30-minute levels with a break after every four; the day will end around midnight. Live coverage starts with today’s “shuffle up and deal.”

Also returning to the fray (though not yet sat down) is fitness influencer Zac Aynsley, who took a break from the tables yesterday, we hear, to give Chris Moneymaker some tips on his workout regimen. Apparently he warmed up for Day 1d with some online tournaments this morning:
"I was up early, sitting with my laptop, rugby on - I placed 7th and 10th in two tournaments. My luck's in!"

Hazel Birchnall was still playing in Day 1c in the wee hours of this morning, only busting in the penultimate level after a cooler saw her run into the pocket aces of Nikolay Ponomarev. She has gotten right back on the horse along with ten other of our previously-busted Day 1d entrants so far.

Chris Fraser wasted no time getting his 30,000 chips in play on Day 1d. He opened under the gun on the very first hand to 600, and called an opponent's three-bet to 2,000 with .
The flop: . The gutshot/flush draw combo was all it took for the chips to fly in: Fraser led for 3,000 and called his opponent's shove. He was up against , which he outdrew with the on the river.
"Make sure you emphasize how well I played it," he urged.

Back in the Main Event for a second (or third) attempt are Shaniece James (last spotted in the cash game respectably late after busting yesterday), Steven Daglish and UKIPT champ Brett Angell. Fresh players from as far afield as Edinburgh and London are also still arriving in a steady stream - it remains to be seen whether Newcastle's stop on the Moneymaker Tour will attract a similar total to that at Le Meridien (468) last week.

A hand escalated quickly preflop between Blair Matheson, under the gun, his neighbour Haji Hussein and big blind Mark Grant. Matheson opened to 800, Hussein called and it folded to Grant who upped the bet to a chunky 3,700. Both of his opponents made the call.
The flop: . Grant and Matheson checked, and Hussein moved all in for 11,800, around the size of the pot. Grant took a turn in the tank, counting out calling chips, considering the board and finally deciding to fold. Matheson took his time, too, chip riffling while Hussein could just watch and wait on the last decision in the hand. When Matheson passed, Hussein flashed the .
"I had kings," said Grant.
