Serve and Volley

The first two pots went to Tom Marchese, but Sam Stein just evened the score. Stein opened for 500,000. Marchese made the three-bet to 1,600,000, the first heads-up three-bet. Stein responded by jamming all in for 15,000,000 and getting a quick fold from Marchese.

Cards are back in the air. Here are the heads-up chip counts:

Sam Stein - 16,380,000
Tom Marchese - 9,460,000

Daniel Clemente Eliminated in 3rd Place ($309,366)

Daniel Clemente - 3rd Place
Daniel Clemente - 3rd Place
Daniel Clemente raised from the button and then Tom Marchese reraised all in from the big blind. Clemente took a minute, but made the call.

Marchese held the {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} and Clemente held the {A-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}. Clemente was the player at risk and had about 4.3 million chips.

The flop came down {J-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{2-Spades} and Marchese kept his lead. The turn added the {7-Diamonds} to the board and then the river was the {9-Spades}, giving Marchese the pot.

Just to be sure, the tournament staff double checked the two chip stacks and verified that Clemente was the player with less chips. He earned over $300,000 for his finish, leaving Marchese to do battle with Sam Stein for the title.

Slow Going

We're getting to the point of the night -- and the tournament -- where action slows down immensely. Flops are rare; action past the flop even less likely to occur.

For example, Sam Stein opened the last pot to 430,000. Dan Clemente called from the big blind. On a flop of {10-Clubs} {3-Clubs} {3-Diamonds} Stein's bet took it down.

Y. Jamal Eliminated in 4th Place ($241,064)

Level 32 : 100,000/200,000, 20,000 ante

Y. Jamal moved all in from the button, and Tom Marchese snap-called from the small blind. It was time for a race, with short-stack Jamal's {10-Clubs} {10-Spades} against Marchese's {A-Hearts} {Q-Spades}.

The {A-Clubs} {J-Spades} {6-Hearts} gave Marchese the lead. With the {K-Hearts} on the turn, Jamal swapped some outs. Now a queen would give him a double up and a ten would eliminate him. The {2-Spades} on the river was neither, sending Jamal to the rail in fourth place. He earns $241,064, by far his largest cash to date.

Play Resumes

Cards are back in the air. Four players remain. Her's how they stack up:

Sam Stein - 13,245,000
Daniel Clemente - 4,560,000
Tom Marchese - 4,150,000
Yunus Jamal - 1,385,000

Some chips were colored up at that break.

No Call for Marchese's Four-Bet Shove

Tom Marchese is not going gently into that good night. He opened for 355,000, then moved all in for almost 3.5 million after Daniel Clemente tried an in-position re-raise to 800,000. Clemente tanked, almost a sure-fire sign that he was not going to call. Indeed, after about a minute, he mucked his cards.
