Pilgrim's Opponent Fights Back

From the hijack seat, Dwyte Pilgrim raised to 8,000 and only got one caller from the big blind. The flop came down {A-Clubs}{4-Spades}{2-Hearts} and the big blind checked. Pilgrim bet 10,900 and his opponent called.

The turn was the {K-Clubs} and both players checked before the river completed the board with the {8-Diamonds}. The big blind fired 27,000 and Pilgrim folded, dropping to 220,000 chips. His opponent showed him the {3-Spades}{3-Clubs} for just a pair of threes.

Billirakis Vying for Chip Lead

Now that we've identified him, we can tell you that Steve Billirakis is having a hell of a Day 2. He may be the current chip leader; certainly his 560,000 chips rank as a Top Five stack.

Billirakis just relieved an opponent of 60,000 chips. On the turn of a {Q-Hearts} {9-Spades} {7-Diamonds} {6-Spades} board, Billirakis led out for 12,000. His opponent put in a minium-raise to 24,000; Billirakis re-raised to 60,000. His opponent thought and called, then folded to a 50,000-chip bet on the {A-Diamonds} river. Billirakis kindly showed {6-Hearts} {6-Diamonds} all the same.

Turner Back to Earth

Jon Turner was up to half a million chips just a short time ago, but he's come all the way back down to 300,000. His latest setback was to the tune of roughly 60,000. Turner opened a pot from late position, only to have the big blind move all in for an additional 51,000.

Turner thought and thought, then took a flyer with {K-Hearts} {8-Spades}. He was up against a pair, but it wasn't as small as he perhaps had hoped: the big blind showed down {9-Hearts} {9-Diamonds}. The board didn't help Turner, {6-Spades} {10-Diamonds} {J-Clubs} {6-Diamonds} {10-Hearts}.

Negreanu Makes Quads; Smith Boosted

Not only is Kristy Arnett our new on-camera personality, but she's also got some skills reporting the action from around the room. Here's some of the news she gathered.

"With a dwindling stack of 22,200, Negreanu pushed all in from early position. It folded around to the big blind who asked how much the bet was for. Negreanu answered and then the big blind called and flipped over pocket eights. Negreanu sheepishly showed his pocket sevens. He wasn’t behind for long though as the flop came {J-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{7-Hearts}. Quads were good for a double up as the turn and river blanked off and Negreanu now has nearly 50,000 chips."

In case you didn't catch it from our video gallery, here's an interview Kristy did with Daniel Negreanu early in the day on Day 1 shortly after he doubled up just minutes into action.

She also reported a hand with Justin "BoostedJ" Smith and here's how that went.

"Justin Smith repopped a middle-position raiser on the button with the {A-Spades}{10-Spades}. The original raiser called and the flop came {Q-Spades}{8-Spades}{6-Spades}. After the opponent checked, Smith followed through with a bet and was check-raised all in. Smith snap-called after flopping the nuts against his opponent's {A-}{Q-}. The board ran out {J-Clubs}, {8-Hearts} to move Smith up to 150,000."

Hidden in Plain Sight

Mr. Billirakis
Mr. Billirakis
When we were looking over the end of Day 1 chip counts last night, there was one name that caught our eye -- Steve Billirakis.

Really? Steve Billirakis? Did he play? We certainly didn't see him. It was a footnote that was filed away and soon forgotten in all the hubbub of the start of Day 2.

During the course of the day, a player on one of the outer tables started building a stack. He took his 40,000 starting count and increased it to more than 400,000. And who was that strange player with the massive stack?

None other than Steve Billirakis.

So, Steve, we apologize for not spotting you yesterday. It looks like you're the recipient of this year's "Hey look! It's Marco Traniello!" award, first christened at 2009 EPT San Remo.
