Pilgrim Gets the Best in Battle of Dueling Kickers

[Removed:413] could only shake his hand after tangling with Dwyte Pilgrim. Pautrot opened for 25,000 pre-flop and was called only by Pilgrim from the big blind. Both players checked an ace-high, all-Broadway flop, {A-Clubs} {k-Hearts} {10-Spades}.

On the turn {A-Diamonds}, Pautrot bet 40,000 after Pilgrim checked. Pilgrim tossed in matching chips, asking Pautrot, "You have a king? Ten?"

The river was a seeming blank, the {8-Hearts}. Pilgrim checked again, inducing a bet of 75,000 from Pautrot. Pilgrim snap-called with {A-Hearts} {Q-Hearts}, three aces. His kicker played over Pautrot's {A-Spades} {5-Hearts}.

Pilgrim is back up to about 525,000 in chips. Pautrot is now a short stack with just 130,000.

Breaking the Law-son

On a flop of {A-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}, Ted Lawson had 115,000 of his chips out there with about 200,000 behind when Daniele Nestola put him all in. After several minutes in the tank, Lawson had the clock called on him by someone at the table. With less than ten seconds left on the clock, Lawson made the call and tabled {A-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}. Nestola held {8-Spades}{3-Diamonds} for a better hand with two pair.

The turn was the {9-Clubs} and the river the {2-Clubs}, failing to help Lawson and sending him to the rail. Nestola now has about 900,000 chips.

Why Jonathan Aguiar Plays Poker

Earlier Dwyte Pilgrim's pocket aces held up against big slick, and he celebrated by running around the room and shouting "That's why I play poker." It looked like he was going to get a chance to celebrate again when Jonathan Aguiar was all in with {Q-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts} against Pilgrim's {A-Hearts} {A-Spades}.

The flop was a clean {K-Spades} {8-Hearts} {3-Spades} and after the {7-Clubs} on the turn, Aguiar had picked up his bag and was ready to go. But the river was the miracle {Q-Spades}, a one-outer since someone had folded a queen. "Yes, yes!" yelled Aguiar with a fist pump. "That's why you play poker, Dwyte Pilgrim! That's why you play poker!"

Aguiar now has 340,000, and Piligrim was knocked back to around 400,000.

Wong's Queens Cracked, Then He Busts

Danny Wong eliminated
Danny Wong eliminated
Danny Wong lost about 200,000 chips from his stack when his pocket queens got cracked by Naim Tahan's {A-?}{10-?} thanks to an ace on the river.

On the next hand, Wong had about 70,000 left and called a raise of 22,000 from Blair Hinkle. Wong was in the small blind and attempted a stop-n-go play when he jammed the flop for the rest of his stack after it came {K-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}. Unfortunately for him, Hinkle flopped bottom set of twos.

The turn was the {4-Hearts} and the river the {10-Spades}. Wong failed to catch back up and was eliminated in the hand.

Short Stack Survival

Jose Alboukrek made his move all in from late position for 208,000 with {k-Clubs} {10-Clubs}. Michael De Gilio was waiting in the big blind with pocket jacks and made the call. Everything was looking grim for Alboukrek until he spiked a king on the river, {8-Diamonds} {10-Spades} {6-Diamonds} {8-Hearts} {K-Hearts}. He doubled up to about 425,000 while De Gilio slipped back to 360,000.

Villamizar Bad Beated Out

Blake Buffington moved all in from early position for 167,000 chips. Action passed to an even shorter-stacked Paul Villamizar in the big blind, who seemed to have a very difficult decision. After about a minute he opted to call all in, taking us to a showdown.

Buffington: {Q-Diamonds} {J-Diamonds}
Villamizar: {K-Diamonds} {Q-Spades}

Buffington stood up and was putting his jacket on after a flop of {9-Spades} {9-Clubs} {2-Diamonds}, not realizing that he had Villamizar covered. However, a {J-Hearts} spiked on the turn to give Buffington to lead. He took his jacket off and sat back down in time for the turn to brick off {3-Spades}.

Villamizar is out and we are down to 44 players.
