Raymer Avoids Elimination

Things were looking grim for Team PokerStars Pro Greg Raymer. His stack of roughly 200,000 was in the middle pre-flop and called by Daniel Abromson, who had Raymer covered. Raymer was behind, tabling {A-Spades} {K-Diamonds} against Abromson's {K-Hearts} {K-Spades}.

"That's worse than I had hoped," Raymer remarked.

Neither player improved on the all-club flop, {8-Clubs} {9-Clubs} {10-Clubs}. Raymer spiked an ace on the turn, {A-Clubs}, but the river {J-Clubs} created a board flush and a chopped pot.

Tough Draw!

There's one table near the front of the room that stands out, after the draw, for how tough it is. Seated in order around the table are chip leader David Miscikowski, James Mackey, Nam Le, Andrew Chen and Vanessa Rousso.

The chips are already flying around the table. Joseph Cutler tried opening a pot from late position with a raise to 12,500. Miscikowski re-raised the small blind to 26,500 in front of big blind Mackey, who four-bet shoved all in for more than 200,000. That was the end of the action.

Maldito Rio

The light's growing dim for Mackey.
The light's growing dim for Mackey.
James Mackey is newly short-stacked after being rivered in back-to-back pots. First Vanessa Rousso took Mackey's stack down a peg, flopping middle pair with {K-?} {10-?} and then rivering a king to overtake Mackeys flopped top pair.

Just a few hands later, Mackey played a three-way pot with Blake Buffington and Nam Le. On a flop of {2-Clubs} {4-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds}, Buffington opened for 27,000. Mackey was the only caller. Buffington checked the {7-Hearts} turn and was then faced with a bet of 45,000. He tanked for more than a minute before tossing in a call.

On the river {9-Hearts} Buffington moved all in. Mackey asked for a count (62,500) and then called with {K-Hearts} {Q-Spades}, top pair. Buffington turned over {7-Diamonds} {9-Diamonds} for a flush draw that made a running two pair. Mackey's frustration was evident all over his face as he paid off the river bet.

Busquet Bluffs Kling

On the flop of {K-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{5-Hearts}, Lauren Kling checked and Olivier Busquet checked behind. The turn brought the {4-Diamonds} and Kling checked again. Busquet checked behind again.

The final community card was the {K-Hearts} and Kling bet 26,000. Busquet fired in a raise to 75,000 and Kling went into the tank. She eventually folded and Busquet showed a bluff with the {8-Spades}{6-Spades}. Kling wasn't happy when she saw his hand and dropped to 165,000 chips.

Raymer Doubles Up Nestola

On the flop of {9-Spades}{7-Hearts}{2-Clubs}, Daniele Nestola moved almost all in for 92,000. He had one T500 chip on his card and didn't put that into the pot. Greg Raymer made the call. Nestola bet his last 500 in the dark and Raymer called.

Raymer held pocket eights, but was behind Nestola's pocket tens.

The turn was the {Q-Clubs} and the river the {2-Diamonds} to earn Nestola the double up. Raymer was left with 112,000 chips.

Pautrot Holds and Triples

Action foled to John Bunch in the cutoff seat and he raised to 13,500. Thomas Fuller flat-called from the small blind and then [Removed:413] raised all in from the big blind for 104,000 even. Bunch reraised all in for 265,000 and then Fuller made the call.

Fuller and Bunch held the same hand with {A-?}{K-?}. Pautrot held pocket tens.

After a board of {Q-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{2-Spades}{Q-Spades}{5-Diamonds}, Pautrot tripled his stack to over 300,000. The other two players split the side pot.

O'Dwyer Dropping

Steve O'Dwyer
Steve O'Dwyer
On a {10-Hearts} {5-Spades} {2-Hearts} board, Daniel Clemente bet 25,000, and Steve "MrTimCaum" O"Dwyer called. Both checked the {3-Clubs} on the turn. The river was the {9-Clubs}, and Clemente fired 35,000. O'Dwyer took more than a minute to decide to call. But he immediately regretted the decision when Clemente turned up {J-Clubs} {J-Diamonds}. O'Dwyer mucked and is down to 205,000 from a starting stack of 307k.

Recent Eliminations

Bob Lauria is out. He re-raised all in pre-flop with pocket queens and ran right into pocket aces. An ace on the flop was the nail in Lauria's coffin.

Ben Stoesser is also out. He re-raised all in for roughly 50,000 after Steve Billirakis opened with a standard raise from the button. Billirakis called with {A-Spades} {4-Hearts}, a 3-to-1 underdog to Stoesser's {A-Diamonds} {8-Clubs}. It was the river (isn't it always the river?) that did in Stoesser, {2-Clubs} {6-Hearts} {5-Diamonds} {J-Clubs} {3-Clubs}. Billirakis' 6-high straight dragged the pot and increased his count to 560,000.
