Ruh-Roh Rousso

Vanessa Rousso
Vanessa Rousso

We've just lost another Team PokerStars Pro, the one and only Vanessa Rousso. Here's what happened:

John Hall raised under the gun, and Rousso called in position. Heads up, the two took a flop of {6-Clubs} {5-Diamonds} {3-Clubs}, and Hall continued out with a bet of 2,000. Rousso called, and Hall bet another 4,500 on the {4-Hearts} turn. Rousso took her pause before making a minimum raise to 9,000, and Hall quickly called.

The river {J-Clubs} brought the third club, and Hall checked it over. After counting down her stack with some deliberation, Rousso announced an all in for 22,575. Hall eventually put her to the test, but she was not up to the challenge. "Nice call," Rousso said. "You got it."

She sheepishly rolled over her {A-Spades} {4-Spades}, and Hall's {6-Spades} {7-Spades} straightened her right out the door. "I didn't put you on the straight," Rousso said as she gathered her things. "I thought you had like aces. Bad read."

Hall is up to about 90,000 after earning that knockout.

Richey Fires Flop and Turn to Win

Phil Laak limped from under the gun, Danny Suied limped from the cuttoff, Brett Richey limped from the button, the small blind completed and the big blind checked. That brought them to a flop of {J-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{5-Spades}. Action checked around to Richey and he fired 1,325. The small blind and Suied in the cutoff seat were his only callers.

The {4-Hearts} hit fourth street and action moved around to Richey again. He stayed on the gas, firing out 3,500. The small blind flicked his cards in before Suied followed suit and Richey was pushed the pot.

Cada vs. Binger

Nick Binger raised to 750 from middle position and Joe Cada reraised to 2,500 from the big blind after the small blind limped. Both players called the reraise and the flop fell {Q-Spades}{3-Spades}{5-Clubs}. The small blind checked to Cada and he bet 5,200.

After Binger called and the small blind folded, the dealer burned and turned the {8-Hearts}. Both players checked and did the same when the {3-Clubs} appeared on the river. Cada revealed {A-Hearts}{Q-Clubs} and Binger mucked. With that win, Cada is up to 45,000. Binger dropped to 40,000.

By the Numbers

It's officially official.

As it turns out, yesterday's Day 1a drew 328 runners, two less than we were led to believe. That's okay though, as today's Day 1b has drawn another 373 players to the felt to fill out this field. That puts the total number of entrants at a very respectable 701. The staff is calculating the prize pool right now, but we'd expect they'll be paying 104 spots with a first-place prize of right around $750,000. We'll have the full numbers as soon as they're verified.
