Harman Doubles through Seidel

Erik Seidel and Jen Harman took a flop of {9-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}. Seidel checked to Harman, then raised all in after Harman led at the pot. Harman called with {q-Spades}{8-Spades}, a pair of eights. Seidel had {8-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}, a pair of eights with a worse kicker. Seidel turned a flush draw, {3-Diamonds}, but had to pay out the double-up when the river blanked {k-Hearts}.

David Benyamine

Down to 12,800 in chips, Tom Dwan open-raised his button against David Benyamine. Benyamine called with {a-Spades}{j-Clubs}, the favored hand against Dwan's {k-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}. Dwan didn't betray much emotion as the board rolled out {6-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{q-Spades}{5-Clubs}. He made a beeline for the exit while Benyamine stopped to say a few words to his rail. He'll be back later tonight for the Sweet 16.

Bord Laughs Last

On his Twitter feed this morning, Gavin Smith joked, "getting ready for [James] Bord, not often I can play a shorter, scruffier, fatter player than me, we should get professional pics." We hope Smith got those photos taken early because Bord just sent Smith to the rail. Trailing in the match, Smith moved his stack into the middle on an all-small flop, {2-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}. Bord called with bottom set, {2-Spades}{2-Clubs}; Smith showed a combination draw with {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts}. The board immediately paired on the turn, {3-Diamonds}, to improve Bord to an unbeatable full house. He will move on to the next round.

Phil Gordon is on to the Sweet 16
Phil Gordon is on to the Sweet 16

A series of pre-flop raises between Greg Raymer and Phil Gordon got all the chips in pre-flop. Gordon had a very small lead to start the hand.

At showdown Raymer opened {q-Spades}{q-Hearts} and Gordon tabled {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}. Gordon flopped top pair, {6-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{k-Hearts} to take the lead. The turn {j-Spades} gave Raymer an up-and-down straight draw that did not fill with a river {5-Clubs}. Raymer was eliminated (but not before giving Gordon a big hug).

Phil Gordon update count: 1.
