Tob-La-Owned

"I need my lucky hat back."
"I need my lucky hat back."
Toby Lewis is out, much to the delight of John Eames who was betting against EPT champion Jake Cody on whether Lewis and Stu Rutter would cash.

Lewis pushed with {7-Clubs} {7-Spades} over the top of a raise but immediately was called by {Q-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts} and couldn't hit anything on a {4-Hearts} {Q-Clubs} {K-Diamonds} {2-Diamonds} {K-Spades} board.

Anne Robinson

With just eight to go until the money, the action is going slower than a slug through treacle, players clearly realising that a slip-up now would mean they would, in the words of Welsh-loving Anne Robinson, "go home with nothing."

As a result, decisions are taking longer, and players are dwelling up as if on the final question of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. One player who isn't slowing down, however, is Jen Mason, the Hampsteadian raising and reraising like it's going out of fashion.

I do seem to be a curse, though, as when I'm watching she normally loses a pot, albeit a small one. In her last encounter, she raised to 7,500 from middle position, only to be called by the under-gun-limper. On the {2-Spades}{9-Hearts}{Q-Clubs} flop, Jen continuation bet for 12,000, leading to her foe check-raising to 27,000. After a resigned smile and internal sigh, Mason released her hand.

But this was only a minor hit, however, as she still has her head above the 100,000 mark, although has lost a little pace over the last couple of levels.

Andy Miles Ahead

Andy Miles has just knocked out Dave O'Callaghan in a cooler spot as Miles was holding {A-Hearts} {A-Clubs} to O'Callaghan's {K-Clubs} {K-Spades}.

A {6-Hearts} {5-Spades} {7-Clubs} {A-Spades} {A-Diamonds} board later and the Irishman's Open dreams were over.

Wood Chipper

Eoin Wood will have been relieved to see he had live cards when his {5-Hearts}{4-Hearts} came up against the {A-Hearts}{10-Hearts} of Jim O'Neill, and even more relieved when the flop came {2-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{2-Spades} to give him an open-ended straight flush draw and more outs than an entire cricket season.

But if he hadn't overdosed on relief by then, then he will have done by the turn, the dealer popping a clinical {6-Diamonds} onto the felt to seal the deal.

In the meantime, and as the academic {9-Diamonds} hit the river, O'Neill was visibly distraught, huffing and sighing his way back into his seat.

Wood shoots up to 50,000, O'Neill shoots down to 15,000.

Hicks Still Alive

The oldest player in the tournament, Paddy Hicks is still in this tournament. He was down to just 2,600 but has since doubled up twice and now has 13,000 or so to much delight for a big rail who are cheering his every hand. Can he make it to the money though? It'll be close.

Double Fault

Young Rolf Harris.
Young Rolf Harris.
They say you've got to win your coin flips, but they forget to mention the ones where you're ahead.

All in with {Q-Hearts}{Q-Clubs} versus the {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} of James Mitchell, Jonas Becker will have been in confident spirits preflop, but as a ten arrived in the window of a {10-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} flop, his tournament life was suddenly hanging by a thread and it was he now in search of one of two outs.

However, they failed to arrive on a blank {3-Diamonds} turn and {6-Diamonds} river and Becker was sent off court. Mitchell, meanwhile, serves up another ace and is now on circa 160,000 in chips.

Stutter For Rutter

Stu Rutter raised to 5,000 and Jen Mason made the call from the big blind. The flop came {9-Clubs} {A-Hearts} {3-Hearts} and Rutter bet 7,000 after Mason checked.

She immediately raised to 20,000 and Rutter tapped the table and passed.

Ahh Noo! Mattern is Out.

After a long day of grinding harder than Spearmint Rhino lapdancer, Arnaud Mattern has been knocked out.

He pushed his last 30,400 but found Steven King piling on the misery by making the call with {9-Spades} {9-Clubs}. Mattern's {7-Hearts} {7-Diamonds} was in hot water and couldn't survive the {6-Clubs} {J-Spades} {4-Clubs} {10-Spades} {10-Diamonds} board.
