Welcome To Day 3 Of The Irish Open

Can anyone stop the sweeping tide of Flood?
Can anyone stop the sweeping tide of Flood?
61 players remain lead by the home hope Liam Flood who sits at the top of the pack with 398,200 in chips.

We've been told that the players be whittling themselves down to the final table of eight today, however long that may take.

Around a third of the field will start with less than 20 big blinds though, so we're expecting a fast start but it to slow down later as all the stacks bunch up closer together.

Play will begin in around 10 minutes.

Level: 16

Blinds: 2,000/4,000

Ante: 400

Fear and Apprehension

"Easy decision," smiled Adrian O’Donoghue as he pushed in his paltry stack from the small blind. "I've only looked at one card," confessed Liam Flood as he made the call. "I haven't looked at either," replied O'Donoghue.

But there was skepticism in the crowd as Donoghue flipped the {K-Clubs} followed by the {K-Spades}, the cowboys ready to shoot down Flood's dominated {J-Hearts}{8-Hearts} at point range.

But even against overcards, you can see the fear and apprehension in the eyes of the players as they lock horns with the seemingly invincible Flood. However, and despite pairing the flop, Flood couldn't squirm his way out of this one, the board coming {4-Spades}{Q-Spades}{8-Spades}{7-Hearts}{4-Clubs} to award Donaghue the pot.

Some Robbin' From Sherwood?

Nik Persaud opened from late position and Rob Sherwood called behind with Eoghan O'Dea also calling in the big blind.

All three players checked the {K-Spades} {J-Spades} {Q-Clubs} flop and then also the {J-Clubs} turn. O'Dea and Persaud then checked the {7-Hearts} river and Sherwood bet 16,000, the other two mucked instantly.

Power Poker

It's not the size of the stack, but what you do with it that matters (well, that's why my Mrs. tells me anyway). Having raised it up to 10,500 from the cut-off, Stuart Rutter was reraised by Peter Murphy in the big blind, who then snap-folded to a four-bet from Rutter. Feel his power!

The Sole Survivor Dynamic

Paddypower have a special promotion on during the tournament for all their qualifiers. There's currently 7 left and the very last one still in will net a cool €100,000 as a result.

Therefore the tournament is going to get very interesting on tables when there's only three or four of them left. Neil Channing offered his view, "Don't raise the qualifier's blind, just reraise the guy trying to steal his blind!"
