iNinja World Championship Draws 1,140; Jeff Sluzinski Leads Day 1c/d With 346,000

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante
Jeffrey Sluzinski
Jeffrey Sluzinski

After Day 1a/b drew a turnout of 420, Day 1c/d of iNinja World Championship got 720 more to push the two-day total to 1,140, smashing the guarantee of $250,000 with a prize pool that should approach $400,000 when official numbers are released.

At the end of a grueling day that saw 139 players book seats to Wednesday's Day 2, it was Jeff Sluzinski coming out with the best stack, bagging 346,000. Praveen Lokam (315,000), Jewook Oh (300,000), Bob Dixon (284,500), and Gary Bertram (262,000) also bagged hefty stacks.

Others making it through included Matt Reed (161,000), Aaron Johnson (137,000), Vlad Revniaga (132,000), Chris Tryba (78,500), Kou Vang (72,000), Leif Force (66,500), and DJ Mackinnon (60,500).

Reed, who made a deep run in the World Series of Poker Main Event in 2013, finishing 11th for $573,204, won a big pot late when he opened to 7,000 at 1,500/3,000/500. The small blind shoved for about 47,000 with {j-Spades}{10-Spades} and Reed snapped it off with {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds}. A board of {7-Clubs}{9-Spades}{7-Hearts}{8-Hearts} looked bad for Reed on the fourth street as his opponent made a straight, but a {7-Diamonds} river gave him a boat.

Some players firing and failing to bag stacks included Josh Reichard, Anna Khait, Michael Rocco, Lance Harris, Ralph Massey, and Colossus II winner Ben Keeline.

Day 2 play gets underway at 2 p.m. local time back at Planet Hollywood, and PokerNews will be on hand to watch as the tournament plays down to a winner.

Harris Busted

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Lance Harris, pictured in a different event.

A player opened to 3,100 and another made it 8,500 in the hijack. Lance Harris was in the next seat and crammed for 24,200. Action folded back to the reraiser, who sat back and crossed his arms, asking for a count. After getting a quote, he tossed in a call.

Harris: {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades}
Opponent: {q-Clubs}{q-Hearts}

Harris' sweat looked to be a short one after {q-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} flopped, but a {j-Diamonds} gave him a small chance. The {k-Clubs} river wasn't enough.

Hastings Busts Johnson

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Aaron Johnson
Aaron Johnson

For at least the second time that we saw, Aaron Johnson opened for a raise and got three-bet to 6,100 by the opponent on his left, Corey Hastings, who was in the cutoff this hand. Johnson came back with a four-bet all in for about 35,000 and his Hastings thought briefly and called.

Johnson: {7-Spades}{7-Diamonds}
Hastings: {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}

A board of {3-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{9-Clubs} left Hastings in need of river help, but he got it when the {k-Spades} arrived.

Easy Double for Kiletto

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante
Lily Kiletto
Lily Kiletto

Lily Kiletto was in the blinds and got 9,000 in preflop against an opponent an opponent in late position. The flop came {6-Spades}{q-Spades}{9-Spades}, and Kiletto check-raised all in for about 27,000 after her opponent slid all of his big denomination chips in. Her opponent quickly called with {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds} but was miles behind Kiletto's {a-Spades}{j-Spades}, good for the nut flush. The turn and river were bricks, and Kiletto doubled up, taking nearly all of her opponent's stack.

Welcome to Day 1c/d of iNinja World Championship

iNinja World Championship Day 1b
iNinja World Championship Day 1b

Two flights are in the books and two flights remain for the iNinja World Championship at Planet Hollywood.

Once again, two Day 1s are scheduled for today, the first beginning at 11 a.m. and the second at 4 p.m. local time. They will have considerable overlap, so expect Day 1d coverage to start after Day 1c bags, whenever that proves to be — both Day 1a and Day 1b hit their hard stops with 17 percent of the field remaining yesterday.

When all was wrapped up after Day 1a/b it was Matt Lushin who set the bar by bagging 439,000. Other runners making it through included Jeremy Kerbel (418,500), Jason Smith (223,500), Michael Sanders (190,000), Ryan Phan (160,500), iNinja Pro and World Series of Poker bracelet winner John Reading (160,500), and Jose Montes (86,500).

If yesterday is any guide, Day 1d will prove to be the bigger flight as it accommodates a bunch of players who take their shots at World Series of Poker events and come up empty-handed.

Again, unlimited reentry is available through the start of Level 13 for both flights. Expect things to end sometime during Level 16 if things play out as their did during Day 1a/b. Players will begin with 22,500 in their stacks and blinds at 50/100, with 30-minute levels throughout the day until Level 16.
