Alexander Gifted Piles

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Matt Alexander saw action folded to him in the cutoff and opened to 2,500. The player on the button went all in for what looked to be at least 35,000 and the players in the blinds folded to put action back on Alexander. He tossed in a chip to signify a call.

All-In Player: {a-Hearts}{3-Clubs}
Matt Alexander: {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}

Alexander was poised to add a significant chunk of chips to his stack and saw the runout come in his favor, falling {k-Clubs}{10-Spades}{9-Spades}{6-Clubs}{j-Spades} to give him an unnecessary Broadway en route to a six-figure stack.

Bergeth Uses the "Go and Go"

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

The player on the button saw action folded to him and opened to 2,400. Todd Bergeth was in the small blind and three-bet to 7,000. The big blind folded and the opener called to take action heads up to the flop {7-Hearts}{9-Spades}{6-Spades}. Bergeth was first to act and kept his foot on the pedal, shoving the rest of his chips into the middle.

Bergeth's opponent asked for a count and the amount to call was set to be 17,500. The player thought for a few moments and then sent his cards to the muck.

Large Stacks on Table 1

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Table 1 has seen a rotating lineup throughout the afternoon with one consistent theme: action. Maybe two players out of a full table of nine have been present at the table since the start of the tournament, with other seats seeing players come and go regularly. One player to have joined within the last couple of hours is Shelly Morrill, who finds herself as the likely chip leader across the 10 tables-worth of action with Level 9 soon coming to a close. Rich Stevens sits on her direct left and also has over 100,000 in chips.

"Captain Jack Doesn't Stab"

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Scotter Clark
Scotter Clark

There was around 7,000 in the middle on a flop of {10-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{5-Clubs} with action heads up between Tam Le, who was under the gun, and Scotter Clark who was in middle position. Le had a bet of 7,000 out in front of him and Clark was in the process of calling. The call brought the turn {q-Diamonds} and both players checked. The river then fell {9-Diamonds} and both players checked once more to take the hand to showdown.

Le tabled {j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} for a queen-high straight and Clark mucked his hand. There was talk about hope that Clark was going to take a stab at the pot on one of the later streets to steal it away from Le.

Dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow to inject some fun into the room, Clark spouted back: "Captain Jack doesn't stab!"

Whammy Makes Like His Name; Sends Maas To Rail

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Sam DeSilva, better known as Sammy Whammy around the poker community saw action folded to him on the button and pumped it up to 3,600. Joseph Maas defended his big blind and the flop fell {6-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{7-Clubs}.

Maas announced he was all in and Whammy immediately tossed a chip forward in the air to the center of the table to call, tabling his hand as the chip landed on the felt.

Joseph Maas: {6-Hearts}{3-Hearts}
Sammy Whammy: {q-Diamonds}{q-Spades}

Maas' bottom pair was in need of improvement to stay alive and would not get the help he needed as the turn {10-Diamonds} and river {k-Hearts} left him with a second-best hand and no further chips with which to play.

Meanwhile, short-stacked Pat Kenney previously had a seat at the table and has since been eliminated from the tournament.

Varland Finds New Life

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Kim Varland shoved all in for 15,100 from under the gun and action folded around to the big blind, who made the call.

Kim Varland: {q-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}
Big Blind: {a-Hearts}{q-Spades}

Varland was in trouble with her dominated hand but picked up a few more outs on the flop {10-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{2-Spades}. The turn came {a-Diamonds} to take her original three outs away, leaving her with just the four nines in the deck to fill up her gutshot straight draw. The river fell {9-Spades} to do just that and gave her a double, leaving her opponent to exclaim that the situation was bull s**t as he paid off the necessary amount.

Johnson's Kicker Plays

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

There was a little over 7,000 in the middle as heads-up action between Kou Vang in the hijack and Roger Johnson on the button checked through the flop {a-Spades}{5-Clubs}{k-Hearts}.

The turn was {7-Clubs} and Vang checked again. Johnson put out a bet of 3,200 and Vang thought for a few moments before making the call. Both players checked on the river {q-Diamonds}.

Vang announced a king, showing {k-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}. Johnson showed one better, tabling {k-Clubs}{j-Hearts}. The dealer confirmed that the jack kicker played and Vang turned his cards over and sent them into range for the dealer to scoop them up and begin washing the deck for the next hand after sending Johnson the pot.
