"baita" Wins GGS #473 for $466,106!

Level 29 : 6,000/12,000, 1,800 ante

The action is complete, the day is done! After a long grind in the $1,000,000 Guaranteed, $25,000 buy-in GGS #473 event on Natural8, a winner was crowned. Brazil's "baitu" was the last player standing, making their way through a field of 78 entries to win $466,106.

The action kicked off in the huge tournament at midnight CET and even before the virtual dealers were in their seats, there were twenty-four players ready and waiting to take their shot at a share of the $1 million guarantee. With an hour still left in registration, the number was up to 31, but action was anything but slow.

Several players were already playing huge stacks, including the early chip leader, "PyramidOfSkulls," who had more than 70,000 chips in Level 9, having started with 15,000. As registration drew to a close, entries, both new and re-entries, began to spike. With fifteen minutes left in late registration, there were 63 entries on the books, but by the time it all closed down, 78 entries swelled the prize pool well beyond the original $1,000,000 guarantee.

After they crunched all the numbers, the total prize pool came in at a monstrous $1,911,000. That put more than twice the buy-in up for the minimum cashers in eleventh and tenth, and a few dimes short of $500,000 up top.

Once registration closed, it played down pretty quickly. They were in the money within six hours of cards going in the air, with "PerfectDisguise" and "ravenoustrashdog" winning $56,813 each for eleventh and tenth place respectively.

The eventual winner, Brazilian player "baita," was dominant throughout the final table, carrying one of the biggest stacks nearly the whole way, with the biggest stack for most of the endgame. He or she eliminated five of the final nine players, including the final three for victory.

One of the side stories of the final table was that four of the final nine, and five of the eleven cashers were sporting maple leafs beside their names; all hailing from Canada. The four-handed play came down to one Brazilian against three Canadians, but none of the Canucks were able to stop the surging "baita."

It was a blind on blind hand where "RL-Stine" limped in and "baita" checked their option. Both players checked the {4-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} flop, but when the {9-Diamonds} hit the turn, "RL-Stine" fired 12,000 into the middle.

"baita" called, and the river came {5-Hearts} "RL-Stine" bet 22,000, and "baita" raised to 72,000. "RL-Stine" thought for a moment before shoving all in for 226,338. "baita" quickly mucked sending the pot to "RL-Stine" as they showed a {k-Spades}.

Level 25 : 3,500/7,000, 1,000 ante

"PloFishh" was short stacked and shoved from the second seat, and "baita" reshoved over top from two seats over. The {8-Clubs}{5-Spades}{6-Spades}{8-Spades}{8-Diamonds} board was safe for the queens, and "PloFishh" was done in sixth place.

There was a nine on the {q-Hearts}{4-Spades}{5-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{k-Clubs} board, but also a queen, and Canada's ImLividBuddy was done in eighth place for $69,372.16.
