Day 1b Started
Day 1a is in the books, and 40 players have already booked their tickets for Day 2 action. Josh Hopkins is the one with all the chips after the first day of play, bagging up 272,000 by the end of the day, but there's still one more chance to find a stack for Day 2 play, as Day 1b kicks off at noon on Saturday, October 5th.
Last year, Day 1b was huge with a total of 232 entries pushing through the turnstiles before registration closed. It's still an open question how many players will be there this year, but considering the Day 1a total was nine higher than 2018's Day 1a, the trend for Day 1b is looking good.
No doubt a few of the familiar faces to fall on Day 1a will take another shot tomorrow. Its likely that players like Jordan Cossette, Kimberly McClymont, Murray Hicks, Sy Clark, Mike Smith, Tyler Williams, Dallas Larson and others will be back at the felt for Day 1b.
Cards are in the air at noon on Saturday, and once again they'll play 16 levels to decide who moves on to Day 2.
Stay tuned here for the action from the floor all weekend long.

Day 1b of the SIGA Poker Championship is always the biggest, and the room was already full before the day even began. There's 170 entries on the board to start the day, and that number will only grow through the four and a half hours of late registration.
Last year, 232 entries swelled the prize pool on Day 1b, which meant the prize pool ended up at just a hair under $220,000. With the increased numbers on Day 1a, and the full room to start Day 1b, added to the increased buy-in, it's almost a certainty the 2018 prize pool will be crushed this year.
The community has come out in force for Day 1b, and there are a ton of familiar faces in the crowd. 2014 Champion Chris Bowers is in the field, looking to join 2017 Champ Trevor Norlander, and 2018 Champ Daniel Lefevbre in Day 2 action. In addition to Bowers, other players who have been sighted so far today include Kyle Irvine, Brian Anderson, Harley Hudson, Pete Fylyma, and Casey Nicole, who usually celebrates her birthday on one of the tournament days, but this year will be celebrating that on Monday. There are also a few players who tried on Day 1a and didn't make it through, including Sandra Loudon and Kimberly McClymont.

Another circuit around the room has revealed a few more familiar faces at the felt today. Brian Borsheim, Dallas Larson, Tyler Williams, and Kyle Stronski are all taking a second shot after falling short on Day 1a. As well, two of the Klimosko brothers made it out for Day 1a, with Derek bagging a Day 2 stack. Third brother Kris Klimosko is in action today, trying to join his brother on Day 2 tomorrow.
Regina's Deven Lane made the trip north for Day 1b as did Tyler Bonkowski and Pavel Krumer. In addition to them, local player Sunny Lubana has made an appearance for Day 1b.
The tables are all full to cap with 170 players in action and a wait list for available seats. So far, there have been no calls of "Seat Open!" echoing across the Tatanka Tipi Room as all 170 starting players are still playing a stack.

After a limp from early position and a call from Casey Nicole the next seat over, Brad Korchinski bumped it up to 500 to go. The big blind made the call, as did Nicole, while the limper mucked his hand.
It checked to Korchinski on the flop, and he bet 600. The big blind got out of the way, but Nicole check-called. Both players checked the turn, and Nicole led out for 1,500 on the river. Korchinski made the call, and his pocket aces were ahead of the pocket jacks of Nicole.
