234 Players Entered But Only One Will Cash

Level 11 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
FPN League Champ Championship Event
FPN League Champ Championship Event

The field size grew to 234 players in this FPN League Champ Championship event. Currently only 70 players remain.

This event is unique in a weekend full of FPN King Slayer events. Only one player is making the money and taking home $10,000, while the top 15 percent of the field will win a seat into Sunday's Main Event. The talk of the tournament is how to be prepared for that final table that only pays one player.

There is still plenty of poker to be played, but each of these 70 is thinking about the best path to be prepared for that final table.

Big Slick Doesn't Do the Trick for Victoria

Level 11 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Dale Schuman versus Russ Victoria
Dale Schuman versus Russ Victoria

Up at the feature table, Russ Victoria was all in for 58,500 and Dale Schuman opted to call off his stack of 58,000.

Dale Schuman: {q-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}
Russ Victoria: {a-Clubs}{k-Spades}

The {3-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{7-Clubs} flop was kind to Schuman by pairing his queen, but his lead was shortlived as the dealer burned and turned the {k-Hearts} to pair Victoria. The rollercoaster didn't stop there though as the {j-Spades} spiked on the river to give Schuman two pair and the double. Victoria was left with just 500 after the hand.

History of the Free Poker Network (FPN)

Level 10 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Brook Lyter (Image: FPN)
Brook Lyter (Image: FPN)

The Free Poker Network (FPN) league was founded by Brook Lyter, who you might remember finisher runner-up in the 2006 World Poker Tour PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA), and Jason Drake in North Dakota (Dakota Poker League). With grassroots help from players and a commitment to providing the best grand prizes possible, the league spread to Minnesota, Nebraska, and beyond. Today, the Free Poker Network (FPN) has over 265 participating locations nationwide.

Over the years, there have been many wonderful success stories, and many more friendships.

While countless poker leagues have come and gone over the years (many falling woefully short on promises made to players and bars), the Free Poker Network continues to deliver great prizes season after season.

The league has put over 100 players into World Series bracelet events and countless other Heartland Poker Tour, World Poker Tour, and other major tournament events!

Huge Double for Marilyn Ragan

Marilyn Ragan

Both Marilyn Ragan and Kent Laurent were all-in with the board of {3-Clubs}{9-Spades}{6-Spades}{4-Hearts}.

Ragan showed the {q-}{9-} while Laurent proudly flipped over {a-Diamonds}{a-Spades}. Laurent was ready to scoop a pot of nearly 80,000 when the {9-Diamonds} landed on the river. Ragan screamed and leaped out of her chair. "Nice hand." was all Laurent could say.
