It was a steady opening day for the partypoker MILLIONS North America $5,300 Main Event that saw a total of 164 players take their best shot at moving on. Tyler Patterson had one of the most profitable days, winding up with 6,055,000 chips which left him near the top of the leaderboard. Patterson, along with 63 other players, already have their spot locked up in one of the Day 2s.

Patterson has a knack for running pure in $5,000 events, with his largest cash to date coming at a WPT Main Event in 2015 for $375,270. Patterson has over $2.4 million in career live tournament earnings along with a WSOP gold bracelet in the 2014 $1,500 Pot Limit Omaha Hi/Lo event. The American poker pro has spent some time previously in Canada, but this is his first time stopping at the Playground Poker Club.

The Day 1A field had no shortage of familiar names taking part in the action, and many of them also made it safely through the day. Some of those include partypoker Chairman Mike Sexton (1,385,000), partypoker Sponsored pros Kristen Bicknell (2,010,000), Richard Dubini (2,255,000), and Roberto Romanello (2,500,000), chip leader Tony Dunst (8,030,000), Manig Loeser (4,950,000), Sam Chartier (4,200,000), Alex Foxen (2,580,000), and Kevin MacPhee (2,530,000).

The Day 1 fields are expected to grow in numbers as it gets closed to the weekend, and with four starting flights remaining, the staff will be looking to eclipse the 2,000 entry mark. There is a guaranteed $10,000,000 up for grabs and the top three finishers are all guaranteed to become millionaires.
