Smith Finally Gains Some Traction

Level 14 : 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante

Elliot Smith opened to 100,000 in the hijack, Patrick Eskandar defended his big blind and the dealer fanned out {6-Clubs}{a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} on the flop. Action checked to Smith, he bet 50,000 and Eskandar swiftly raised to 125,000, Smith called.

An {8-Spades} hit the felt as a turn card and both players checked to the {5-Diamonds} river. Eskandar checked to Smith who pushed in a bet of 415,000 and Eskandar called.

Smith tabled {a-Spades}{k-Clubs} for top two pair and Eskandar tapped the table to signify a good hand as he threw his cards into the muck, sending a pot to Smith.

Merzhinskii Sends Elias Packing

Level 14 : 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante
Aleksandr Merzhinskii
Aleksandr Merzhinskii

Aleksandr Merzhinskii opened from under the gun to 105,000, Darren Elias three-bet to 280,000 in the hijack and Merzhinskii called. The flop came down {4-Hearts}{10-Spades}{2-Diamonds} and both players checked.

A {q-Spades} peeled off as the turn card and both players checked again to the {a-Hearts} on the river. Merzhinskiii checked to Elias who bet 325,000 and Merzhinskii instantly moved all in.

Elias called for his remaining stack of around 1,200,000 and turned over {a-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} for two pair. Merzhinskii tabled {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds} for a higher two pair, eliminating Elias, taking down the large pot in the process.

Paulin Finds Unlikely Runout Against Romero

Level 13 : 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante
Pierre-Paul Paulin
Pierre-Paul Paulin

Pierre-Paul Paulin opened to 100,000, James Romero three-bet to 230,000 and Paulin moved all in for more than enough to cover his opponent. Romero thought for just a moment before he slammed in his 1.650,000 stack and the two turned over their hands.

Romero: {6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}
Paulin: {a-Spades}{k-Spades}

The flop was beautiful for Romero as it came {a-Hearts}{6-Spades}{8-Clubs} and he took a commanding lead with his set of sixes. An {8-Hearts} peeled off on the turn and Paulin now picked up some full house outs.

An unthinkable card popped off on the river when the {a-Diamonds} turned over, giving Paulin a higher full house to take down the pot and send the start of the day chipleader packing.

Jeremy Ausmus
Jeremy Ausmus

The board read {k-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{a-Clubs} and all of the chips were in the middle. Jeremy Ausmus was all in for 1,650,000 and James Romero had enough in the pot for a call.

Romero had {10-Spades}{10-Clubs} face up for two pair and Ausmus was showing {a-Spades}{5-Spades} for a rivered ace and the best hand. Ausmus found a full double through the Start of the day chipleader.
