Day 1b of the €300,000 guaranteed partypoker Grand Prix Killarney €340 Main Event at at Ireland’s National Event Centre (INEC) and Gleneagle Hotel was a huge success with 361 entrants joining the field

This represents more than double the 295 attracted during the earlier online and live opening days to bring the total number through Day 1b to 656 entrants with two opening days still remaining. A total of 104 players bagged chips from the Day 1b field making it a total of 173 players thus far advancing to Day 2 less any players that may have bagged chips on multiple opening days.

Day 1b chip leader Cormac Hutton bagged the 263,400 in chips and thus far the overall chip leader. Also bagging big stacks on Day 1b were Michael Roddy (second - 248,700),James Murray (third - 194,800), Robert Clarke (fourth - 216,000) and Martin Young (fifth - 191,300).

Hutton managed to accumulate this massive stack of chips on the last hand of the evening by eliminating two opponents with all the chips in preflop. Hutton's pocket jacks held strong against the ace-king and ace-queen held by his opponents.

The turbo Day 1c is still ongoing and PokerNews will provide coverage until the day is completed.

The final opening day of the Main Event, the turbo Day 1d, will kick off at 10 a.m. local time tomorrow. As soon as that ends, Day 2 will begin at 2:30 p.m. local time. The PokerNews live reporting team will be back on the floor to provide a recap of the final opening day along with full coverage of Day 2.

Huge Final Hand, Three-Way All In, Quads and a Chip Lead For Cormac Hutton

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Cormac Hutton

All the chips were in the middle preflop on the last hand of the night.

Deidre Haydon: {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}
Cormac Hutton: {j-Hearts}{j-Clubs}
John Cantwell: {a-Spades}{q-Hearts}

Players from other tables crowded round to see how the hand would play out.

There were gasps at the {j-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{8-Spades} flop as Cantwell flopped a set but left a chink of light as Cantwell had a gutshot.

The turn was the {j-Diamonds} and that sealed the deal. Quads for Hutton and with the {9-Clubs} hitting the river two players were felted and just like that Hutton had a huge stack and the chip lead.

Campbell Eliminates Tait & Brady

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Alan Campbell
Alan Campbell

Alan Campbell bagged chips in Day 1a but shared as Day 1b was starting he wanted a bigger stack to start Day 2 with. It looks like Campbell might get his wish after he just won a huge hand involving Bob Tait and David Brady.

Tait opened to 2,000 and got calls from Brady and Campbell. Tait fired out a bet of 6,000 on the {q-}{j-}{8-} flop and got calls from both of his opponents.

Tait then fired out again, this time for 15,000 after the {2-} appeared on the turn and once again got calls from both of his opponents.

Tait then jammed the rest of his chips all-in after a {5-} appeared on the river. Brady, who was covered, called and was also all in. Campbell also called and took down a huge pot with top pair holding {k-}{q-}. Tait showed {a-}{4-} while Brady showed {a-}{j-}.
