Dan "mj23style" Sewnig Wins partypoker US Network Online Series Event #8 ($20K GTD) for $7,150

Event #8 Final Table
Event #8 Final Table

Event #8 of the partypoker US Network Online Series drew 143 entries at $215 each to generate a total prize pool of $28,600, beating its $20K guarantee by over 40%. When all was said and done, Dan "mj23style" Sewnig was the last man standing and earned the top prize of $7,150 for his efforts.

The event exceeded its guarantee two-thirds of the way through the late registration period, and Sewnig found himself with a top-10 stack as registration looked to close. He stayed above average as play made it into the money more than an hour later and withstood an onslaught of eliminations that saw 20 players become 13 within two levels before chips began to truly fly.

"supafishh" got all in with ace-ten suited against the pocket jacks of seventh-place finisher "ryanmco18", who flopped a full house. Two cards later, "supafishh" had hit a backdoor royal flushhttps://www.pokernews.com/tours/partypoker-us-online/partypoker-us-network-online-series-oct-11-18/event-8/chips.387972.htm to temporarily stave off elimination, though they fell in 13th.

Both Ryan "Whosyourdoddy" Dodd and Yong "IReadYrSoul" Kwon had amassed huge stacks, but Kwon would then get crippled after his ace-king could not hold to the ace-ten of "RiverMan", who aptly hit a straight on the river. Sewnig then rose to prowess, winning a three-way all-in with ace-king to eliminate Ryan "TheSims" Hohner in 10th place before knocking out "RiverMan" in ninth to take the chip lead into the final table.

6TheTerminator1$1,487
7ryanmco18$1,152
8Eric "alwaysliquid" Vanauken$866

A familiar face at final tables throughout the summer in Eric "alwaysliquid" Vanauken became the first to drop in eighth, and "ryanmco18" fell just moments thereafter when their pocket nines lost a coin flip to Sewnig's ace-king. Sewnig continued to increase his chip lead over the next two levels as six-handed play continued before "TheTerminator1", Brian "TopCreature" Sherrier, and Don "dhimp20" Himeple all fell within a five-minute span.

The tournament then went on a five-minute break and shortly after its return Sewnig eliminated Dodd in third after getting stacks in on a seven-four-trey flop. Dodd had king-four suited and his middle pair wound up behind Sewnig's pocket nines, where it stayed through the runout to result in Sewnig taking more than 85% of the chips in play into the heads-up match with "pay4medsch00l".

"pay4medsch00l" started the match with all the momentum, eventually nearly tripling their stack from where they started the match. From there, Sewnig won a few pots and then correctly called a large river bet with second pair to leave "pay4medsch00l" with less than 10 big blinds. Two minutes later, stacks got in preflop and Sewnig wound up with the best of it to claim the title and the accompanying first-place prize of $7,150.

In Level 31 with blinds of 25,000/50,000 and an ante of 6,250, Dan "mj23style" Sewnig went all in on the button and "pay4medsch00l" called all in for 939,000 in the big blind.

"pay4medsch00l": {a-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}
Dan "mj23style" Sewnig: {k-Spades}{10-Diamonds}

"pay4medsch00l" was ahead and their shot at a double became even more realistic after the flop {q-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{4-Clubs}. Unfortunately for them, Sewnig took it from there as the turn {k-Hearts} and river {k-Clubs} gave him trips as it completed the runout, leaving "pay4medsch00l" with the second-best hand to result in them finishing as the runner up in Event #8.

Meanwhile, Dan "mj23style" Sewnig has claimed the title in Event #8 for $7,150. A recap of the event will be posted shortly.

In Level 28 with blinds of 16,000/32,000 and an ante of 4,000, Don "dhimp20" Himpele saw action fold to him in the small blind and shoved for 510,000. Dan "mj23style" Sewnig was in the big blind and called.

Don "dhimp20" Himpele: {a-Spades}{6-Clubs}
Dan "mj23style" Sewnig: {k-Spades}{q-Spades}

Himpele was poised for a double through the flop {2-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{7-Diamonds} and turn {4-Hearts}, but the river {q-Clubs} gave Sewnig a pair of queens and eliminated Himpele in fourth place.

Brian Sherrier
Brian Sherrier

Hand #1: In Level 28, all of the chips went into the middle postflop between Brian "TopCreature" Sherrier in the big blind and "pay4medsch00l", who was in the cutoff.

Brian "TopCreature" Sherrier: {9-Diamonds}{8-Spades}
"pay4medsch00l": {a-Hearts}{a-Spades}

When all was said and done, the board read {2-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{7-Spades}{3-Spades}{q-Clubs} and Sherrier had missed his flopped open-ended straight draw to be left with just 101,000.

"TopCreature"

Hand #2: On the very next hand, "TheTerminator1" wound up all in from the big blind against Dan "mj23style" Sewnig, who was under the gun. The final board read {10-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{5-Spades}

"TheTerminator1": {k-Hearts}{k-Spades}
Dan "mj23style" Sewnig: {q-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}

Sewnig flopped a flush to crack the pocket kings of "TheTerminator1" and eliminate them from the tournament in sixth place with Sherrier having less than three big blinds when the elimination occurred.

Hand #3: On the very next hand, Sherrier jammed on the button into a dead small blind, and Sewnig called in the big blind for 44,000 more.

Brian "TopCreature" Sherrier: {q-Spades}{6-Clubs}
Dan "mj23style" Sewnig: {8-Clubs}{4-Clubs}

Sherrier's luck ran out as the board came {7-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{4-Hearts}{8-Spades}{k-Diamonds} to give Sewnig eights up and send Sherrier out in fifth place.

"ryanmco18"

In Level 26 with blinds of 12,000/24,000 and an ante of 3,000, Dan "mj23style" Sewnig raised in middle position and "ryanmco18" three-bet jammed on the button for about 350,000. Sewnig called once action got back to him and the two were off to the races.

"ryanmco18": {9-Diamonds}{9-Spades}
Dan "mj23style" Sewnig: {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}

Sewnig was all over the flop {10-Spades}{a-Hearts}{j-Clubs} and further improved to Broadway on the turn {q-Clubs}, leaving "ryanmco18" with nothing more than three chop outs to Broadway themselves. Instead, the river {7-Clubs} completed the runout and "ryanmco18" was eliminated from the tournament in seventh place.

Eric Vanauken
Eric Vanauken

In Level 26 with blinds of 12,000/24,000 and an ante of 3,000, Eric "alwaysliquid" Vanauken open-jammed for a bit over 300,000 in the cutoff and Don "dhimp20" Himeple called all in for barely less in the small blind.

Don "dhimp20" Himeple: {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}
Eric "alwaysliquid" Vanauken: {j-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}

The board ran out {8-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{3-Spades}, giving Vanauken a gutshot straight draw on the flop that never filled. He was left with crumbs that would be gone a few hands later to result in him taking eighth place in the tournament.

Tournament Reaches the Final Table

"KevinDurant"
"KevinDurant"

In Level 25 with blinds of 10,000/20,000 and an ante of 2,500, "KevinDurant" was in the big blind and got the last of their chips in for a total pot of 350,000. "ryanmco18" gave them action in the small blind. When all was said and done, the board read {7-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{10-Hearts}{6-Hearts}.

"KevinDurant": {4-Spades}{2-Spades}
"ryanmco18": {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}

Though "KevinDurant" flopped sevens up, it was no good to the kings up of "ryanmco18" and they were unable to find one of the two remaining cards in the deck that would keep them alive, resulting in their elimination from the tournament in 10th place.

Just a moment later, "RiverMan" was eliminated in ninth place by Dan "mj23style" Sewnig and the final table of eight has now been reached with Sewnig entering with the chip lead and a stack of over 2 million.

"supafishh" Stays Alive in Perfect-Perfect Fashion; "dibik8826" Not So Much

"supafishh"
"supafishh"

In Level 23 with blinds of 7,000/14,000 and an ante of 1,750, "supafishh" open-jammed for 101,000 in middle position and "ryanmco18" isolation-jammed on their direct left to force all remaining players out of the pot.

"supafishh": {a-Spades}{10-Spades}
"ryanmco18": {j-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}

"supafishh" saw their chances go from bad to nearly dead on the flop of {5-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{j-Spades} as "ryanmco18" flopped jacks full. They were left needing a perfect runout to a royal flush to stay alive and found just that as the turn {k-Spades} and river {q-Spades} appeared to save them in truly improbable fashion.

Less fortunate was "dibik8826", who found themselves out in 16th place earlier in the level.

Brian "TopCreature" Sherrier: {a-Clubs}{j-Spades}
