“AvidSmores” Wins Event #1: $100K GTD Phased for $18,700

At the beginning of the series, Event #1: $100K GTD Phased kicked off and proceeded to hold eight starting flights throughout the week. All told, 726 entrants participated, with 183 of them moving on to Sunday’s Day 2.

Of those, only the top 54 got paid meaning some players had to leave emptyhanded including Jon “Jetsfan411” Borenstein, “JakeTheSnake99,” and bubble boy “GrindUrGearz,” just to name a few.

Among those to cash the tournament were Ryan “Whosyourdoddy” Dodd (16th - $1,000), Daniel “leinad” Buzgon (18th - $1,000), “JEB1030” (26th - $700), “JayOnRiver” (31st - $550), “spinach_kale” (34th - $550), “DaCoolerKing” (40th - $500), “Monkee” (46th - $450), and “Djp120388” (54th - $450).

Early on at the final table, “AvidSmores” and “MoZZyNJ” played a big pot in which both players made a flush, but the former was best to give them a big chip lead. They’d ride that lead all the way to the title, eventually defeated Jake “FerociousPanda” Toole in heads-up play – the result of ace-five suited holding against king-five suited all in preflop – to claim the $18,700 first-place prize.

Jake “FerociousPanda” Toole Eliminated in 2nd Place ($14,000)

In the last hand of the tournament, which took place in Level 28 (180,000/360,000/45,000), Jake “FerociousPanda” Toole moved all in for 2,827,323 from the button and "AvidSmores" called from the small blind.

Jake “FerociousPanda” Toole: {k-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}
"AvidSmores": {a-Spades}{5-Spades}

Toole was in need of some help, but things got worse when the {2-Clubs}{a-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} flop paired "AvidSmores'" ace. The {7-Spades} turn left Toole drawing dead and he bowed out in second place after the {4-Diamonds} was run out on the river.

"acezano" Coolered Out in 12th Place

In Level 19 (50,000/100,000/12,500), "acezano" got their stack of 875,000 all in preflop and found themself in dire straits against "Million27."

"Million27": {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}
"acezano": {j-Clubs}{j-Hearts}

"acezano" was looking for a fishhook but he was left wanting as the board ran out a dry {6-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}. With that, "acezano" was dispatched in 12th place for $1,400.

"GrindUrGearz" Bubbles Phased Tournament in 55th Place

After a few hands of hand-for-hand play on the money bubble in Level 11 (16,000/32,000/4,000), the extremely short-stacked "GrindUrGearz" found himself all in from the big blind for just 4,359. The rest of the players folded and "acezano" automatically called given he had it covered in the small blind.

"GrindUrGearz": {a-Diamonds}{4-Spades}
"acezano": {k-Hearts}{6-Spades}

"GrindUrGearz" was ahead and paired on the {4-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} flop. The {j-Diamonds} turn was of no consequence but the {6-Hearts} river was as "acezano" rivered a bigger pair to win the hand and burst the bubble.

The remaining 54 players are now guaranteed a minimum payday of $450.

"Borgatcha" vs. "upayformypennys"

In Level 5 (6,000/12,000/1,500), "upayformypennys" raised to 24,000 from the hijack and "Borgatcha" defended the big blind to see a {6-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} flop.

"Borgatcha" check-called a bet of 24,000 and then both players checked the {2-Spades} turn.

When the {4-Spades} completed the board on the river, "Borgatcha" bet a modest 18,000 and that did the trick as "upayformypennys" released.
