Eric “alwaysliquid” Vanauken Wins WPT Online Borgata Series Event #5: $25K GTD Progressive Knockout Bounty for $14,256

The WPT Online Borgata Series Event #5: $25K GTD Progressive Knockout Bounty came to an end early Friday morning after Eric “alwaysliquid” Vanauken defeated BorgataPoker.com Sponsored Pro Daniel "leinad" Buzgon to win $14,256 for his first-place victory ($7,154 plus $7,102 in bounties).

The fifth event saw 17 players start the tournament with that number steadily increasing throughout the registration period as Vanauken outlasted a field of 97 entries at $535 apiece.

The 97 total entries generated a total prize pool of $48,500 that would be paid out to the top 14 players.

The playing field saw a total of 26 players at the start of Level 16 but that number quickly dwindled as John "Slapshot1085" Forlenza bubbled the tournament at the start of Level 21, leaving the remaining players in the money.

From there, players steadidly dropped as "FRIELnGood" (14th place - $376), "angels" (13th Place - $376 + $844), Daniel "centrfielder23" Lupo (12th Place - $436 + $312), "Stoops211" (11th Place - $436 + $781), "chaposticks" (10th Place - $558 + $,1297) and "ClarkWesterfeld" (9th Place - $558 + $562), all got a piece of the pie but fell short of the making final table.

Final Table Action

The elimination continued like spitfire as Dan “mj23style” Sewing, Derek "pompii" Sudell and "Stonniepokes" all fell in quick succession, setting the stage for an even heads-up battle.

The heads-up match got off to a slow start as the chip stacks were dead even but it wasn't long before Vanauken won a double to take the chip lead and he then eliminated Buzgon in second place after flopping a set of nines.

PokerNews coverage will continue for the series on Friday, September 17 with updates coming for Event #6: $20K GTD Six-Max NLH ($215).
