Main Event Final Table Chip Counts

It took a little over nine hours of poker to reach the Final Table of eight in the WPT Online Borgata Series powered by partypoker US Network $1,060 Main Event, marking the end of Day 1 of the tournament. In total, 440 entries were recorded to generate a total prize pool of $432,700, and the eight who remain will have their eyes atop the first-place prize of $77,349.

When the dust settled, Kenny "chaposticks" Huynh, who this summer won a WSOP.com online bracelet, wound up leading the field with a stack of 34,047,746. Following in the counts is Tony "ToNiSiNzz" Sinishtaj" who finished the day with 25,618,391. Chris “rumpthumper” White rounds out the top three, well behind the first two with a stack of 11,738,135.

Start-of-day chip leader supremetny also made the final table with a stack of 10,054,770, and with blinds returning to 120,000/240,000 and 20-minute levels for the remainder of the tournament, there is still plenty of room for anybody left in the tournament to make a run.

Day 1 Action

Play began at 5 p.m. ET with 282 registered players, a number that grew consistently through the three-hour late registration period. Starting stacks of 250,000 and 12-minute levels throughout that period provided plenty of room for play, and a bump up to 15 minute-levels thereafter allowed for even more opportunities for action and big pots, and just under half the field remained when the prize pool became official.

Borgata Ambassador Katie Stone became one of the first eliminations once the registration period closed, hitting a string of bad luck that saw two consecutive two outers hit on the turn to send her to the rail. WPT Host Tony "Bond18" Dunst and Borgata Ambassador Michael "gags30" Gagliano were also eliminated in the coming levels.

The top 72 made it into the money, a feat that was accomplished two-plus hours after the registration period closed. Sinishtaj was atop the counts at that time. Frank "FrankyFunk" Funaro (51st place), Stanton "Stonniepokes" Tentnowski (46th place), Borgata Ambassador Daniel "leinad" Buzgon (30th place), and Ryan "Whosyourdoddy" Dodd (17th place) were among those to make it into the money and not advance.

Upon Dodd's elimination, the final two tables were reached with the top four stacks being in the same order they would finish the day. Over the next hour, players such as Brian "pure_reason" Wood (16th place) and Jon "jetsfan411" Borenstein (14th place) also fell short of the final table, and eventually nine remained: Yong "IReadYrSoul" Kwon found himself as the shortest stack in the tournament and shoved with ace-nine. He received action from Sinishtaj, who held king-jack suited, but a king-king-nine flop proved too much to overcome as he took ninth place to burst the final table bubble and end play for the night.

PokerNews coverage will resume for Day 2 of the Main Event at 7 p.m.ET on Monday evening, where one of the eight remaining players will earn $77,349. Be sure to come back and follow to the finish.

Yong ‘IReadYrSoul’ Kwon Eliminated in 9th Place On The Final Table To End Day 1

Level 36 : 120,000/240,000, 30,000 ante
"IReadYrSoul"
"IReadYrSoul"

Yong ‘IReadYrSoul’ Kwon jammed for 2.9 million on the button and Tony "ToNiSiNzz" Sinishtaj re-jammed for 8.35 million effective in the small blind. "nevermuk" folded their big blind and hands were tabled.

Yong ‘IReadYrSoul’ Kwon: {a-Diamonds}{9-Spades}
Tony "ToNiSiNzz" Sinishtaj: {k-Spades}{j-Spades}

Kwon hit a nine on the flop {k-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{9-Hearts} but saw Sinishtaj flop trips, leaving him needing to hit running aces for a better full house or running nines for quads to stay alive. The turn {6-Diamonds} dashed any of those hopes and the river {5-Hearts} completed the runout, resulting in Kwon's elimination from the tournament in ninth place for $7,572.

With Kwon's elimination, Day 1 has officially come to an end as the tournament has reached the final table eight players remaining. Play will resume at 7 p.m. ET Monday evening. A recap of the day's action will be posted shortly.

"xeerock"
"xeerock"

"nevermuk" opened to 440,000 in the ;hj and "xeerock" three-bet jammed for 2.5 million in the cutoff. Action folded back to "nevermuk" and they made the call.

"xeerock": {a-Clubs}{q-Hearts}
"nevermuk": {8-Spades}{8-Clubs}

"xeerock" needed to hit an ace or a queen to stay alive and couldn't do so as the board ran out {6-Spades}{k-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{9-Spades}. They were eliminated from the tournament in 10th place, leaving just one more elimination needed for the final table to be reached and play to finish for the night.

"TheReader23" Falls To Kwon in 11th

Level 35 : 100,000/200,000, 25,000 ante
"TheReader23"
"TheReader23"

"TheReader23" jammed for their last 2.17 million in the cutoff and Yong ‘IReadYrSoul’ Kwon re-jammed for 3.69 million ;on the button to force the players in the blinds out of the hand.

"TheReader23": {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}
Yong ‘IReadYrSoul’ Kwon: {10-Clubs}{10-Hearts}

"TheReader23" picked up a couple of backdoor draws on the flop {5-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}. The turn {3-Diamonds} gave them nine more possible outs to stay alive, but the river {6-Clubs} left their pair of nines no good to result in their 11th-place finish in the tournament, earning a payday of $5,949.

Two more eliminations are needed for play to conclude for the day, and those two finishers will earn $7,572.

Borenstein Beat By Sinishtaj To Bust

Level 33 : 80,000/160,000, 20,000 ante
Jon Borenstein
Jon Borenstein

Yong ‘IReadYrSoul’ Kwon opened the action with a raise to 320,000 in the cutoff and was three-bet to 1.05 million by Tony "ToNiSiNzz" Sinishtaj, who was on the button. Jon “Jetsfan411” Borenstein was next to act in the small blind and four-bet jammed for 2.2 million. Kwon folded to put action back onto Sinishtaj, who called.

Jon “Jetsfan411” Borenstein: {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}
Tony "ToNiSiNzz" Sinishtaj: {k-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}

Borenstein was out in front but the flop {10-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{5-Spades} gave Sinishtaj a pair of jacks. He now found himself with seven immediate outs to pull back ahead and the turn {7-Hearts} added eight more to that total. The river {6-Diamonds} came in Sinishtaj's favor instead, and Borenstein hit the rail in 14th as a result.

"chaposticks" Cracks Kings; Two Tables Remain

Level 31 : 60,000/120,000, 15,000 ante
"chaposticks"
"chaposticks"

"Richardg1289" opened in the hijack and received calls from "chaposticks" in the small blind and "sandman9876" in the big blind to bring about a pot of 570,000.

The flop dropped {5-Spades}{7-Hearts}{3-Clubs} and "sandman9876" led out with a bet of 198,000. "Richardg1289" shoved over the top for 3 million and "chaposticks" re-shoved to put "sandman9876" to a decision for all their chips. "sandman9876" folded and the other two players' hands were shown.

"Richardg1289": {k-Clubs}{k-Spades}
"chaposticks": {3-Diamonds}{3-Spades}

"Richardg1289" had run their kings into a set of treys and the turn {2-Spades} and river {6-Spades} brought no help, resulting in their elimination from the tournament.

Shortly before that, "youngkoi", "PokerKarma", and "TyForDaChips" were also eliminated from the tournament. Ryan "Whosyourdoddy" Dodd also found the rail just after "Richardg1289", and the slew of eliminations has brought the field down to just 16 players across two tables of play.

"TyForDaChips"
"TyForDaChips"

Action folded around to "TyForDaChips" on the button and they jammed for 1.2 million. "SuperShred" called in the big blind.

"TyForDaChips": {a-Spades}{2-Spades}
"SuperShred": {a-Hearts}{j-Clubs}

"SuperShred" had called correctly to put "TyForDaChips" at risk for their tournament life but the runout {k-Spades}{10-Hearts}{5-Spades}{2-Spades}{4-Spades} gave "TyForDaChips" the nut flush en route to a double.

Moments earlier on another table, Borgata Ambassador Daniel “leinad” Buzgon shoved under the gun for just over 1 million and received a call by "xeerock" in the ;small blind Buzgon had {a-}{a-} and his opponent held {k-}{k-}. He held through a clean runout and a pot of 2.32 million was sent his way.

Level 24 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante
"DJDonP14"
"DJDonP14"

Action folded around to "DJDonP14" on the button and they opened to 180,000. "OK4u6033" called in the small blind and action went heads up to a flop of {j-Hearts}{k-Spades}{9-Hearts}, where "Ok4u6033" checked and then called off "DJDonP14's" shove for their remaining 92,000.

"DJDonP14": {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}
"Ok4u6033": {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds}

"DJDonP14" had the best hand when the last of the chips went in and the turn {2-Spades} put one card between them and a double. Unfortunately for them, the river fell {10-Diamonds} to complete a straight for "Ok4u6033" and "DJDonP14" was eliminated fro the tournament in 75th place.

Moments later, "wolverine1017" and "Stevehung" were also eliminated from the tournament to bring the field down to 72 and have the tournament reach the money.

Buzgon Empties the Clip

Level 22 : 16,000/32,000, 4,000 ante
Dan Buzgon
Dan Buzgon

Borgata Ambassador Daniel “leinad” Buzgon opened to 70,000 in early position and action folded around to "Speedypete99," who defended their big blind. The flop came {5-Spades}{q-Spades}{3-Diamonds} and "Speedypete99" checked. Buzgon made a continuation-bet of 94,000 and "Speedypete99" called.

The turn was {a-Hearts} and "Speedypete99" checked again. Buzgon fired a second barrel of 224,000 and "Speedypete99" called once more. The river fell {7-Hearts} and "Speedypete99" for a third time. Buzgon went into the tank, using nearly 15 seconds of his time bank before betting 198,000.

"Speedypete99" thought for a few moments and then let their hand go, resulting in Buzgon's third barrel earning him the pot without needing to see a showdown.

As time expired in the previous level, "kgkg510" raised to 36,500 in middle position and was called by Brian "TopCreature" Sherrier ;on the button "chen718" three-bet to 144,000 in the small blind and "kgk510" came over the top, four-betting to 299,500. Sherrier got out of the players' way and then "chen718" called to take postflop action heads up.

Both players pumped the brakes, checking both the flop {10-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{j-Hearts} and turn {5-Clubs}. The river fell {9-Spades} and "chen718" fired 190,000. "kgkg510" thought for a little while and then called.

"chen718" showed {q-Clubs}{q-Spades} for a rivered straight and "kgkg510" mucked, resulting in "chen718" taking down the pot for over 1 million.
