The opening day flights are done, and the Parx Big Stax 300 moves forward with Day 2, beginning at noon today.

The survivors of Day 1a, 1b, 1c and 1d come back today as a combined field, with play beginning at Level 15 and the blinds at 2000/4000/4000. Players will play through one-hour levels, stopping at the end of Level 25, or when the nine-handed final table has been reached, whichever comes first.

The field will go on breaks after every two levels, with a dinner break scheduled after Level 20. Late registration in this unlimited re-entry event is still available through the beginning of Level 16.

Coming into Day 2, the original field of 2,177 entries is down to 373 players. Leading the way on the chip leaderboard is Mikhail Patish (696,500), the Day 1d chip leader. Follwing Patish on the leaderboard are Sharath Sreeramoju (572,000), Day 1a chip leader Sameer Batra (541,000), Eric Valerio (539,500), and Joseph Galazzo (536,000).

Those players are the biggest stacks coming back to Parx Casino in Bensalem, Pennsylvania today. The tournament is scheduled to play through Day 3 Monday, when the remaining players from Day 2 come back to play down to a champion.

Others in contention include Frank Nera (497,500), and Day 1b chip leader Tam Nguyen (462,000). Victor Ramdin (370,500), a two-time champion in the Parx Big Stax 300, is also still in the hunt and begins the day with more than enough chips to be in position for a deep run.

Victor Ramdin
Victor Ramdin

Victor Ramdin, a two-time winner of this event, is the field on Day 2 with one of the bigger stacks in the room early on in Day 2.

Ramdin is one of the most prolific players in the history of poker tournaments at Parx Casino, and took down the Parx Big Stax 300 in February 2019 for $87,327.

That win was just the first of two Big Stax 300 wins for Ramdin in 2019, as he repeated the feat in the September 2019 edition of this event, which netted him $48,777.

Shifter Goes Big on the River

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Rod Shifter
Rod Shifter

With a massive 225,000 pot in the middle on the river of a {3-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{8-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} board, Sean Byars checked from the big blind, and Rod Shifter thought it over for a few moments, then moved all in for 260,000 from early position.

The shove from Shifter sent Byars deep into the tank. After several minutes of contemplation, Byars folded, and Shifter showed pocket sevens.

A discussion ensued about whether those sevens were the best hand, with Byars keeping that information to himself.

Anthony Tonzelli

It's been a big Day 2 so far for Anthony Tonzelli, who was a late registrant that just joined the field at the beginning of Day 2.

Tonzelli sat down with a the 30,000 starting stack and the blinds at 2000/4000/4000, and he's turned that 7.5 big blind stack into nearly 700k in less than four levels.

Tonzelli is no stranger to success in tournament poker, with more than $227,000 in career earnings. He's already added to that total with today'a money finish, and could be poised to make a deep run despite the late, short-stacked start.
