"Shuffle Up and Deal"

Eight levels of intense poker action await us. Let's get down to business, shall we? After some last-minute instructions from T.D. Mike Ward, the microphone was handed over to the newest Team PokerStars Pro, and the newest World Champion of poker, Joe Cada. He thanked everyone for coming out before uttering the most famous words in poker. With dealers heeding his command, the cards are in the air on Day 1b!

Early Pressure on Baron

Isaac Baron is down to 26,500 early after losing a recent pot to an unknown opponent.

Baron opened the pot with a raise from the button and his nemesis repopped it an additional 550 from the big blind. Baron made the call.

The flop came down {5-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{4-Clubs} and Baron called a 750 continuation bet from his opponent.

Both players checked the {A-Hearts} on the turn, sending the action straight to 5th Street which brought the {Q-Spades}. Baron's opponent then fired a 2,100 value bet and Baron made the call only to see his opponent turn over {A-Hearts}{Q-Spades} for a runner-runner top two. Baron mucked, leaving himself with 26,500 in chips.

Ramdin v. Mattern

Team PokerStars Pros Victor Ramdin and Arnaud Mattern have drawn the same table, with Ramin three seats to the Frenchman's left. And they've wasted no time tangling up in a pot.

We just caught the tail end of the hand, but the board read {Q-Diamonds} {2-Spades} {7-Spades} {10-Diamonds} {K-Diamonds}, and there were about 8,500 chips stacked in the pot. Ramdin was first to act, and he fired out 5,000 straight. That sent Mattern into the think tank for several minutes as a crowd of spectators began to huddle around the table. Mattern clutched a blue T5,000 chip in his hand, clearly trying to talk himself into or out of a call. After a long pause, the chip dropped from his hand and into the pot for a call.

Ramdin tabled {2-Diamonds} {2-Clubs}, and his set was good enough. Mattern double-clutched his cards before sending them back to the dealer face-down.

That moves Mattern down to about 18,000, while Ramdin has climbed up over 40,000 here in the early going. We'll certainly be keeping an eye on this table if these two are going to go at it all day.

Potent Notables

The list of familiar faces in the room is too long for this tiny space. Check out our "Chip Counts" page for an ever-growing list of people we'll be tracking today.

Another Fun Table

On flop of {5-Hearts} {J-Hearts} {5-Spades}, we joined a heads-up pot in progress with the action on Tom "durrrr" Dwan in the big blind. He led out into the pot with a bet of 825, and his lone opponent, Robert Mizrachi, came along with the call.

Fourth street brought the {J-Spades} to pair the board, and Dwan passed this time. Mizrachi now took the lead with a bet of 1,000, and Dwan called. The last card off was the {3-Hearts}, and the action check-checked with Dwan tabling the winning {9-Clubs} {5-Clubs}. His trips hated that turn card, but a baby boat is good enough to move Dwan up to about 33,000.

Klodnicki Gettin' Sloppy

Chris Klodnicki was acting out of the cutoff seat and his opponent was on the button with a flop of {K-Clubs} {3-Spades} {3-Diamonds}. Klodnicki checked and his opponent fired 1,500. Klodnicki then raised to 3,500. After about a minute of thought, the player made the call.

The turn brought the {5-Diamonds} and Klodnicki led out with a bet worth 6,000. Another minute passed before the player on the button would make the call.

After the river card fell the {5-Spades}, two pair sat on board and Klodnicki went into the tank. He didn't move a muscle for a solid minute before looking up slowly and announcing "all in." The all-in bet was worth a little over 19,000 and Klodnicki had his opponent covered.

It was now time for his opponent to tank, and that he did. The player took several minutes to decide on his action. At one point, he even reached back at his stack and grabbed the chips he had left, looking like he was going to call, but then stopped. He also double checked his hole cards a few times.

Eventually, the player mucked his hand and Klodnicki scooped in the pot to move to 42,000 chips.
