$25,000 High Roller

Day 1 Started

Bring On the High Rollers

It may be a day off for the Main Event, but there's still plenty of action going on at the 2011 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. Along with Day 2 of the NAPT Bounty Shootout, the start of the $25,000 High Roller event is today.

Last year, 84 entrants ponied up the hefty buy-in to play the event with young superstar William Reynolds taking home the title after besting Will Molson heads up. This year should be much of the same with the field size, but there are high hopes of breaking the 100-player mark.

The usual suspects will be in the buiding including Team PokerStars Pros Lex Veldhuis and Daniel Negreanu. We expect plenty of other big names in the field and once they all begin to arrive, we'll let you know who's here.

Play kicks off at 12:00 P.M. local time down here in the Bahamas and it's going to be a great event. Be sure to stay tuned for all of the coverage coming up shortly!

Dan Kelly Eliminated In Brutal Fashion

Level 1 : 100/200, 0 ante

Well that was quick. Dan Kelly got it in with the nuts, but was eliminated by Fernando Brito.

Under the gun, Brito raised to 400. Kelly popped it to 1,400 from middle position and action folded back around to Brito. He made it 3,900 to go and Kelly called, landing an {8-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} flop. Brito checked, Kelly bet 5,600, and Brito made it 18,000 to play. Kelly went all in for about the starting and Brito called without hesitation.

Kelly: {9-Spades}{7-Spades}
Brito: {A-Hearts}{A-Spades}

Brito was in horrible shape, but found a miraculous {8-Hearts} turn and {8-Spades} river to make a full house, sending Kelly to the rail and chipping up to about 100,000.

Sands Takes Some From Richey

Level 1 : 100/200, 0 ante

We caught up with the action on an {A-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} board and Brett Richey bet 4,800 into David Sands. After a few moments Sands called and when the {3-Diamonds} hit the river, Richey bet 7,800. Sands quickly called and Richey showed {A-}{K-} for top pair top kicker. However, Sands tabled {7-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} for a straight to win the pot.

Sands: Up to about 73,000
Richey: Down to roughly 36,500

One For "ElkY"

Level 1 : 100/200, 0 ante

Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier was on the button and saw a {J-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} flop with two opponents.

Action was checked to Grospellier and he bet 775, forcing one opponent out,. The other popped it to 2,100 and Grospellier called, landing the {4-Clubs} turn card. Once again action was checked to Grospellier and he bet 2,550, quickly getting called. Both players checked the {5-Spades} river and Grospellier turned over {Q-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}, good enough to win the pot and up his stack to about 53,000.

Win One, Lose One for Veldhuis

Level 1 : 100/200, 0 ante

With the board reading {K-Clubs}{J-Clubs}{5-Spades}{5-Clubs}, Shannon Shorr fired 2,575. Lex Veldhuis called and the third player in the hand folded. The river completed the board with the {6-Diamonds} and Shorr tanked for bit before checking. Veldhuis also thought for a bit and then checked behind. Shorr tabled the {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds} and Veldhuis the {7-Hearts}{5-Hearts} for the winner.

On the next hand, Veldhuis was in action against two players on the board of {Q-Spades}{7-Spades}{7-Clubs}{10-Clubs}. He was first up and fired 400. The next player raised to 1,500 and the third player folded. Veldhuis thought for a few moments and then released his hand, losing this pot.
