Day 4 Looms

Welcome back to the beautiful Bahamas for Day 4 of the 2011 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Main Event!

Yesterday 173 players returned on Day 3 with hopes of making it through the day, but after Team PokerStars Pro Greg Debora busted only 48 players were left. We are playing until 24 players remain today and each and every player has their eyes set on the $2.3 million first-place prize.

Our chip leader is Chris Oliver with a whopping 3,675,000 in chips and his closest competitor is Max Lehmanski with 2,324,000.

Other notable players still alive include Team PokerStars Pro Chris Moneymaker (1,636,000), Mike Sowers (1,360,000), Eric Froehlich (1,187,000), Sam Stein (970,000), Eddy Sabat (915,000) and many others.

We are set to start at noon local time, just about half an hour from now. Be sure to keep it locked right here with the PokerNews Live Reporting Team for up to the second updates all day!

Froehlich Flops the Joint and Busts Perepletchikov

Level 22 : 10,000/20,000, 2,000 ante
Oleg Perepletchikov
Oleg Perepletchikov

Eric Froehlich raised from the hijack seat to 47,000. Oleg Perepletchikov three-bet from the small blind to 122,000. Shayne Khanna mucked from the big blind and then Froehlich flat-called in position, looking to see a flop.

The flop came down {8-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} and Perepletchikov fired out two tall stacks of blue T5,000 chips with a few more on top. The total bet was worth 220,000. Froehlich studied for a minute and then announced that he was all in. Perepletchikov called within five seconds.

Froehlich: {A-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}
Perepletchikov: {K-Clubs}{K-Spades}

Pending a runner-runner Paradise Island miracle, Perepletchikov would be eliminated from the hand and Froehlich would win a massive pot.

The turn brought the {A-Clubs} and that officially ended things as the dealer completed the board with the {2-Clubs}. Perepletchikov had about 560,000 behind after he bet the flop and sent all of his chips over to Froehlich, who now has over two million in chips. After the hand was over, Khanna said he would have flopped a flush as well if he played from the big blind.

Yesterday, our very own Kristy Arnett caught up with Froehlich to discuss a hand he played on Day 3 of this 2011 PCA Main Event. Froehlich discusses his thought process in the hand and you should check out the article to get into the mind of a very solid player.

Spadavecchia Doubles Through Wiemes

Level 22 : 10,000/20,000, 2,000 ante

Philippe Plouffe opened to 50,000 from under the gun and the action folded to Wesley Wiemes who three-bet to 125,000 in the hijack seat. The cutoff mucked and John Spadavecchia moved all in for 288,000. Plouffe asked for a count of Wieme's stack (approximately 680,000), but eventually folded. Wiemes snapped it off though, and it was off to the races.

Wiemes: {q-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}
Spadavecchia: {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}

There was a brief pause for the camera crew before the dealer wrapped the table, burned a card, dealt the flop face down and then turned the cards over with the {a-Diamonds} in the window followed by {9-Diamonds}{8-Spades}.

Spadavecchia gave a slight fist pump and Wiemes asked for the {10-Diamonds} on the turn. The {3-Spades} was not what Wiemes was asking for however, and he was now down to just two outs. The {8-Clubs} was yet another blank for Wiemes who saw his stack dwindle to 400,000 chips.

Spadavecchia starts the day with a double and is now up to 660,000 chips.

Beren Busts

Level 22 : 10,000/20,000, 2,000 ante
Eric Beren
Eric Beren

Max Weinberg min-raised on the button and both Eric Beren and Philippe Plouffe called from the blinds. The flop fell {5-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}, Beren checked, Plouffe bet 80,000 and Weinberg folded. Beren then check-raised to 200,000, Plouffe moved all in for over a million and Beren made the call.

Beren: {a-Clubs}{4-Clubs}
Plouffe: {8-Spades}{5-Hearts}

Beren needed a club to stay alive and both the turn and river were black, but neither the {6-Spades} nor the {j-Spades} completed his flush and he was eliminated from the tournament. With the knockout Plouffe becomes one of our chip leaders; he now has 2.85 million chips.

Sabat Spilling, Literally

Level 23 : 12,000/24,000, 2,000 ante

Eric Froehlich raised to 55,000 from the cutoff seat and Eddy Sabat called from the small blind to see the flop come down {J-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}. Both players checked and the {10-Clubs} appeared on the turn. Sabat led with a bet of 62,000 and Froehlich folded. After the hand, Sabat accidentally knocked over his cup of water as he was pulling in the pot. The water went all over the table and caused quite the wet mess.
